SELLING HIGH TICKET JEWELRY
A smart jeweler friend realized they were selling less big ticket items. Instead of just blaming the economy, they decided to actively combat this problem. They began featuring higher ticket items in their ads. They showed higher end more expensive pieces in their monthly emails and to everyone who walked in. And what do you know? They had two $10,000 sales that month.

The key is to #1 Don't be afraid to push and show expensive items and #2 Make it a priority. Some jewelers are scared that if they feature a $10,000 necklace in an ad that they will get less business then if they feature a $200 bracelet that everyone can afford. However, if all you advertise are $200 items you will never get the BIG sale. If you show a beautiful expensive piece it makes your store look good and everyone will want to come to you.
STEP #1 SHOW 
EVERYONE THE BIG STUFF

People don't buy big ticket items from you because they don't know you have them! That is why people buy big jewelry on cruise ships or in New York. 

Shane Decker sold 79 1ct diamonds back when the average size diamond was .25 BECAUSE HE SHOWED EVERY SINGLE PERSON  that walked through the door a 1ct. Start showing bigger jewelry to everyone. Never think someone can not afford something. Start showing and start selling bigger ticket items.

TIPS ON SELLING HIGH TICKET ITEMS

Visibility 
Have at least one killer piece. Put it in the where it will get the most visibility. 

Make it Personal 
Call your high end customers. Email 
them special personal pictures of jewelry you think they will like. Make house calls. Write them long Christmas and thank you cards.

Show Big Jewelry to EVERYONE
If someone comes in for a watch battery they should still try on a $10,000 necklace. They will for sure leave the store talking about it hopefully to their friends. You can even take a picture of them in the piece for them to post on their Facebook page.

Inventory
If you do not have the money to invest in high ticket items, try investing in one piece at a time. Once you sell one, use the money to re-invest in another. This will slowly help you build you inventory. Start out with a safe high end piece like a Riviera necklace or big diamond stud earrings (both available at Olympian Diamonds)

Put in the time. You may need a pricey country club membership, and you may have to spend time going there. You may have to join supper clubs, and attend boring symphonies. The people that do these things will see you doing them too.


Wear MORE JEWELRY. Wear a fine watch (not a generic Tag or the like) and a weighty bracelet and a gemstone and Diamond ring at all times 


Have a private diamond showing for your best 50 customers. You can do it online also. If in store provide free drinks & food. Be sure to let everyone know the showing is very exclusive. People like to feel exclusive.


Always have business cards with you and never miss an opportunity to steer the conversation to gems and jewelry.

Charity is huge. But you can't just go. You have to learn how to push yourself to interact and converse with as many people as possible. Make friends with the board members, and get a seat on the board, or offer yourself and your business for charity fundraising. Pick one that you truly believe in. People can spot insincerity a mile away.


Eat at the FINEST restaurants in your town, always have drinks in the bar before eating, talk to everyone you know AND everyone you don't, and leave a business card along with a generous tip at all times. 

Network, network, network. Play golf, tennis, go to church or synagogue, the opera, ballet, plays and charity balls.

Every showcase should have a piece in the center that is an expensive WOW piece with all different price points around it.
