20th Annual Ski Swap
November 10, 2018
Before you go to this year's Nordic Ski Swap, read these tips to get the most bang for your buck.
What Should I look for?

Before you go, ask yourself:
  • What style of skiing do I want to do?C lassic, skate or both?
  • What kind of skier do I want to be?Meadow tromper, competitive Great Ski Racer?
  • How much can I spend? We accept cash, card and local checks.
Expect great deals on new and used gear from garage sale treasures to high-end gear from retailers like Salomon, Fischer and Alpenglow Sports. Keep in mind high-end cross-country ski packages retail for anywhere between $500 and $1,000+. If you leave the ski swap with a $400 package, you've gotten an incredible deal. With luck, you may find a decent starting-level package (skis, boots and poles) for $100, but you have to know what you're looking for...
Know the Basics

Come prepared with your shoe size (US and European), height, weight and type of activity you want to pursue. If you are shopping for another person, these details are even more important. Nordic skis are sized by height and weight and ski boots are difficult to buy without the right feet trying them on.

In fact, there's so much to know about Nordic gear, we've gathered all the criticals into one comprehensive How to Shop a Ski Swap Guide. It includes:
  • Pro Ski Swap Tips - What should I look for?
  • The difference between classic and skate skis
  • Which bindings to buy, SNS or NNN?
  • What's better, combi, skate or classic boots?
  • Do I really need Nordic poles? (yes, is the answer...)
  • Ski specs - What should I care about?
Selling Gear at the Swap?

Take our advice:
  • Clean up your items and make them presentable to sell.
  • Decide what price you want to sell for. Cross-check their worth online if you're unsure. Or staff and swap volunteers are available to advise during drop off.
  • Fill out your paperwork clearly during drop off. Once the swap has been fully reconciled, we will mail you a check as long as we have a valid, legible name and mailing address.
  • Items to be sold must be registered at Tahoe XC on Friday, November 9th from 12pm to 6pm.
  • Unsold items must be picked up on Sunday, November 11th by 3pm. Or you may donate them to TCCSEA.
  • TCCSEA commission is currently 15%. All proceeds go to TCCSEA Junior Programs.
We need volunteers!

Ski swap volunteers get to pre-shop the swap, a good deal made even better! Please email Ben at Ben@TahoeXC.org to become a ski swap volunteer.
Ski Swap is your last chance to save up to $50 on your season pass. Buy there or online.

Pass prices increase on November 11th.
