How To Island Hop in
The Caribbean
|
|
Greetings!
I was in Toronto a few days ago, when I learned about airlines lifting the mask mandate. It didn't make sense to me that we don't have to wear masks at airports, yet we still have to get a COVID-19 test every time we fly back into the US (being vaccinated and boosted). I don't know how these rules affect your travel plans, but what I am seeing is travel is back, kicking and roaring, both domestic and international.
Perhaps a beach vacation is on your list this summer? At my Four Seasons Resort in Anguilla, guests and residents were packed at the outdoor bar, beachfront pool and restaurant. When I asked the manager about the uptake in visitors, he said "You should have seen last weekend! We were at capacity." The beautiful resort has attracted celebrity guests (you name it) and discerning travels who are willing to pay more for luxury. The island itself, is rather rural and remote, offering peaceful open spaces without the cruise hopping crowds.
Sint Maarten on the other hand, is a bustling Dutch-Carribbean paradise with tons of shopping, bars and restaurants. Still, you can get away from the day trippers and dine at The Flavor Academy's supper club, Cindy's Roti Shop food truck, and Sicilian chef-driven Sale and Pepe. I stayed at the newly renovated Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, which had a wraparound balcony with picture perfect sunsets!
On the same island hopping tour, I also went to the 5-mile wide Dutch island of Saba. This hilly, green and a lot cooler Caribbean island transported me to somewhere in Europe. Marked by red and white cottages, French bakeries, and cobblestone streets, Saba is a gorgeous place to hike, dive, and simply relax. There are no big hotels, chain restaurants or name brands here. Everything is locally made and everyone knows each other.
Traveling to 3 islands on one trip was relatively easy. I took 7-10 minute long flights or 30-minute long ferry rides between each island. I made it to my 100th country on this trip, something that was overdue since international travel got restricted in 2020.
No matter where you choose to travel to this summer, make sure to consult Go Eat Give's blog for inspiration and ideas, or reach out to me if you need assistance in planning your trip. You can also follow me on my upcoming visits to Amsterdam and Curacao this month, through my Facebook page and Instagram.
Safe travels,
Sucheta
