November, 2021
Greetings,

I am grateful to all of you for helping the Katilyst Company grow and remain successful over the past 6 years. I look forward continuing our partnership and serving as your dependable project consultant for many years to come. Happy Thanksgiving!

While we may love the holiday season, we may not always like the added chaos and busyness it brings to our daily routines. Balancing work, home-life, and family gatherings can make anyone feel disoriented. This year, I challenge each of you to practice mindfulness. At least once a day take a minute to just breathe. When you are speaking with co-workers and family, practice active listening and focus on being present in the moment. These habits can improve your work and home-life in unbelievable ways. Read on to find out more.

Here's How HVAC Contractors Can Navigate Shortages
The ongoing shortage of HVAC equipment and tools has created a significant challenge for contractors around the country.

The right strategies can help HVAC businesses navigate this shortage and make the most of the equipment they can order. Due to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, raw material and component shortages have disrupted several critical links in the HVAC manufacturing supply chain.

Many economists and industry observers are unwilling to make predictions about when the shortage will end. However, some have estimated that it could be as late as 2023 before semiconductor production returns to normal. Industries that produce raw materials needed for essential HVAC equipment may face similar recovery timelines.

Why mindfulness matters in business
We live—and work—in a fast-paced world where we are bombarded with conflicting demands, processing information overload, and expected to deal with ongoing change. More often than not, we have to juggle multiple priorities. We check our tablets and phones for updates while writing a report. We talk on the phone while compiling a list of tasks we need to complete. All of this “multitasking” creates stress, and it can negatively impact our ability to focus and make good decisions. Mindfulness makes it possible to find peace in the midst of it all.

Practicing mindfulness will allow you to quickly notice when you become distracted. When you learn to tune out distractions and focus on being in the moment, you will be able to work more efficiently and productively. Being mindful will enable you to pause, think before you respond, and communicate in ways that are more skillful and effective.

Piloting the Transition From Boomers to Zs
I find that stereotypes typically get a bad rap, especially those that refer to age. Stereotypical baby boomers are goal-centric, team-oriented and have a strong work ethic. They may have worked at the same company for the majority of their career. At the opposite end of the spectrum, stereotypical Generation Zers have short attention spans, are addicted to technology, can’t handle face-to-face interaction and are job-hoppers...

But today, boomers are leaving the workforce at a staggering rate. According to the Pew Research Center, on average, 2 million boomers have retired each year since 2011. That number rose dramatically in 2020 to 3.2 million. Within 2 years, millennials and Gen Z will make up over 52% of the workforce. As leaders, does this mean that the workforce is trading its skilled, hard workers for the entitled and flaky? I think not.
