Appointment Notice Update

In an effort to accomodate the needs of all our patients, we ask that you give us at least 24-hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. We appreciate your cooperation.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

One way to help reduce stress and anxiety is through hugs! Hugs have been shown to relax muscles, decrease blood pressure, increase self esteem and boost the immune system.

Spending time with your pets can also have a positive impact on your mental health. Pets help decrease levels of cortisol (a stress related hormone), decrease feelings of lonliness, and can help boost your mood.

One of our favorite parts of working in the veterinary field is getting to HUG all of your pets as well as our own babies!

High Quality Nutrition:

  • Lawndale Veterinary Hospital is committed to helping you make the best nutrition decisions for your pet. Great nutrition can go a long way in preventing, treating, and managing many health conditions.
  • We make nutrition recommendations based on scientific information, scientific publications, and best practices in veterinary medicine (such as the AAHA Nutritional Assessment Guidelines for Dogs and Cats, the AAHA Weight Management Guidelines for Dogs and Cats, and the World Small Animal Veterinarian Association’s (WSAVA) Global Nutrition Assessment Guidelines)
  • Lawndale Veterinary Hospital recommends feeding pet food manufactured by pet food companies who have a vested interest in the advancement of pet nutrition.

Consider

  • Does the company employ a veterinary nutritionist?
  • Are the diets tested and formulated to meet AAFCO nutrient profiles (does the food have the AAFCO statement that the food is ‘complete and balanced’)?
  • Where are the foods produced and manufactured?
  • What quality control measures does the company implement to assure consistency and ingredient quality?
  • Is a nutrient analysis available for the food?
  • Is research on the product available? Are the results published in peer-reviewed journals?

For more information about selecting pet foods, see the World Small Animal Veterinary Association’s (WSAVA’s) Recommendations on Selecting Pet Foods.

We had a great time celebrating our Client Service Representative Team in April!

Next time you're in make sure you say "thanks" to a CSR!

Wondering Why It May Have Been Harder to Get That Last Minute Vet Appointment?

You may have heard that with COVID came a lot of extra pet adoptions which in turn increased the need for appointments at veterinary offices. We were no exception to this rule and have continued to try to meet the needs of our patients. We have hired more staff and we continue to make changes to our scheduling protocols so that we are better able to meet the needs of our patients.

How can you help? Plan ahead and schedule your pet’s wellness and vaccine visit several weeks in advance. This will allow us to have more appointment slots open for same-day sick visits and urgent needs. Also, please know that every day we are working a fully booked or overbooked schedule and that we try our best to see every patient same-day that is sick or injured but if you are calling with a need that isn’t medically urgent, we may ask that you allow us to book your appointment for a later date.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.
