How We Make It All Happen...
The Cinema Arts Centre is your independent community cinema and a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Like most nonprofits, annual giving is an important piece of how we fund our mission. Now is the time of year that people start to think about their own year-end giving, and the Cinema starts to ask our members and patrons to consider including the Cinema Arts Centre in their philanthropic choices.

We want you to know more about who we are, what we do, how we spend funds, how we raise funds, and how annual support from individuals like you helps make it all work.

We hope you find this overview informative. If you have any questions, please contact rene@cinemaartscentre.org.

Our Mission
The mission of the Cinema Arts Centre is to bring the best in cinematic artistry to Long Island, and use the power of film to expand the awareness and consciousness of our community.

We have a long history of using the power of film to do social good. Programs entertain, unite, inspire, educate, mobilize, and create empathy. Programs lift the voices of under-represented groups, of vital community organizations, and other not-for-profit organizations, impacting a variety of causes and issues, and allowing us to share resources, create mutual benefits and work toward a better Long Island.
Our Programs
  • New releases on three screens, 365 days/year
  • Late night programs such as Cult Café
  • Ongoing Series such as
  • Anything But Silent
  • Real-to-Reel/Community Connections
  • Sunday Schmooze
  • Cinema for Kids
  • and more!
  • Educational programs such as
  • Film Arts in Education
  • Workshops, classes and lectures
  • Live Music, Open Mic Night, Board Game Night, Trivia Night, Making Memories, Live Comedy, and even MORE!

In addition to our daily screenings of new releases, we have a special event almost every single day!
Our Impact
  • We provide a platform for independent artists to present films the way they were meant to be seen, in public and on the big screen
  • We help create engagement around a variety of issues important to Long Islanders
  • We are a community center where people of all ages and backgrounds can meet and engage in meaningful discourse, make real connections with others, and socialize away from home
  • We supplement curriculum for thousands of LI public school students through our Film Arts in Education program
  • We are the reason for approximately $7,000,000 in spending in local businesses through our role as a local employer, our use of local vendors, and through visitors we attract to our area
How Funds Are Spent
Year after year, our independent audit shows that 80% of our funds are spent directly on programs for our community, and 20% on all overhead, administration, and fundraising. While administration, overhead, and fundraising are all essential to our ability to deliver our mission, we want you to know how our funds are spent, and we are proud of our robust programming.
How Funds Are Raised
Our revenue pie is diverse, with the bulk of our income coming from ticket sales. But when you take all of our ticket sales and divide it by our number of attendees, it equals $7 per person. When you take all of our expenses and divide it by our number of attendees, that's $17 per person. That means we need to raise $10 for every person who visits us. We want to keep our ticket prices as low as possible, because it is important that our programs are accessible. Annual giving from individuals is an important way we raise that extra $10 per person. This year's goal is $150,000.
What's the Difference between Membership Giving and Annual Giving?
Both membership giving and annual giving are vital to our ability to deliver our mission. Our members are so important to us, and we are grateful for every single one of our nearly 10,000 members. When members choose to give an additional fully tax-deductible gift to the Life of Our Cinema Campaign, this meaningful support helps to ensure that our programs and operations are fully funded. But what is the difference between a membership gift and an annual gift?

Membership support is Earned Income for the Cinema Arts Centre, meaning that membership is something we sell that has a market value and comes with benefits that have a direct monetary value, such as free tickets and discounts. A portion of our membership revenue covers the cost of the benefits we deliver. Membership contributions are not fully tax-deductible, and cannot be paid though family foundations or charitable gift funds.

Annual giving is Contributed Income for the Cinema Arts Centre, and is fully tax-deductible for you the donor. Your gift supports our programs and operations and can be used where we need it most. Contributions can be made through charitable gift funds and family foundations.
Why Make a Gift to the Vic Skolnick Life of the Cinema Campaign
When you choose to make a gift of any amount to the Cinema Arts Centre during the Vic Skolnick Life of Our Cinema Campaign, you are choosing to act on your values in such an impactful way. When the Cinema Arts Centre has a broad base of support from individuals, it helps to protect our mission, to demonstrate to institutional funders that our programs are meaningful to our community, and it helps us make ends meet so that we can continue to serve you with dynamic, expansive, inclusive, and engaging film programs and cultural events.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the Cinema Arts Centre and how we make it all happen. We can't do it without you. We are so grateful to have your engagement in the cinema culture we have built together.
