FROM THE DIRECTORS...
Giving the invocation at the JCC Jewish War Veterans memorial this past Veterans Day, I realized how much we have to learn from our veterans and active United States Armed Forces. Not only from their commitment to our country, but from the way their commitment is executed, regardless our current political divide.
As we mentioned in the letter of the The Jewish Art Calendar--which you have probably received by now, as Jews, Veihavta Liracha Kamocha (loving others as ourselves) is our commitment and mission, and we can't let politics to get in the way of that love or distract us from that mission.
There are still so many people in our community struggling to get by, and with the pandemic only getting worse around the country and here in Maryland, we need to be there for them.
How do we stay focused? The smiles we see on the faces of the vulnerable in our community, including single moms, isolated seniors and those suffering financial hardship, when we deliver our Shabbat Food Packages each week, is what keeps us focused. Or the pictures we receive from our generous volunteer of our Look Good & Good Feel project, Dorit Voda, of beaming seniors, feeling on top of the world with their new--at home and safe--haircuts.
Doing keeps us focused. Our fellow Jews need us now more than ever. We need to stay focused on loving them with all our heart and helping them in any way we can.
We are so grateful to all who volunteer and donate to help us provide for those in need! If you didn't get a chance to donate yet, join today in our ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts, by visiting thislink and donating however much you are able!
May G-d keep you and yours safe and healthy always,
Rabbi Moishe and Esther Kavka
Chabad of Rockville
