HEALTHY BEGINNINGS
Growing Healthy Families Workgroup
The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) is pleased announce the formation of a new collaborative workgroup under the Healthy Beginnings priority! The Growing Healthy Families Workgroup focus is to improve birth outcomes for people of color in Howard County to advance efforts toward reducing health disparities.

An introduction to the workgroup will be provided at the October full LHIC meeting and the first meeting will be held in early November. If you would like to be involved in the Growing Healthy Families Workgroup, please email us at LHIC@howardcountymd.gov.
Walktober 2023
Walktober 2023 is right around the corner! Walktober is celebrated in October across Maryland as part of our State's official exercise and the call to action to promote walking for physical activity and improved health for residents of all ages and abilities.

Coalition members are asked to check out and share the Howard County's Walktober page and the short video! Howard County: Let's Walk, Roll, Ride, MOVE!
COVID-19 Update
Vaccination remains the best protection against COVID-19-related hospitalization and death. The updated COVID-19 vaccine is now available for all Marylanders age 6 months and older.

People with health insurance should get vaccine from their medical provider or at local pharmacies. Those without health insurance or with health plans that don’t cover the cost of vaccine can come to scheduled Health Department clinics as they become available, or go to local pharmacies participating in the federal Bridge Program (CVS, Walgreens, etc.) or to Federally Qualified Health Centers, like Chase Brexton. Coalition members are asked to check out and share the updated information from the Health Department's COVID-19 vaccine page.
Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) highlighted the work of the Howard County Health Department in the Press Release and Blog Post. Highlighted within is the work that is being done collaboratively with multiple partner agencies to address suicide across the lifespan through the Healthy Minds and Suicide Prevention Coalition (HMSPC). If interested in joining HMSPC, email LHIC@howardcountymd.gov.
