Howard County Executive Calvin Ball Opens New COVID-19 Memorial at Meadowbrook Park

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball opened the County’s new COVID-19 Memorial at the Department of Recreation & Parks Meadowbrook Park in Ellicott City. The memorial grove, one of only a few in Maryland, features 44 native birch trees and a water feature surrounded by seating to offer visitors a calming place of reflection.

Healthy Beginnings

Mom's Support Group

Join other new mothers and babies up to 5 months old to share your new mother experience. The group includes resources, guest speakers, discussion of parenting topics and the opportunity to meet and connect with other new moms.

The Howard County Health Department's P.E.A.C.E Project is hosting a diaper giveaway while supplies last.

Free Bikes 4 Kidz

Free Bikes 4 Kidz (FB4K) Maryland is a Howard County-based non-profit organization geared toward helping all kids ride into a happier, healthier, more independent childhood by providing bikes to those most in need. Since 2019 they have given away 9,000 bicycles, and they hope to give away 3,000 more this year.

Walktober 2024

Join the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (LHIC) and local partners for a month of walk and move events called Howard County Walktober. Walking is Maryland's official exercise, so let's get moving!

Living Well Workshops

The Living Well Workshops are presented through the collaborative efforts of the Howard County Health Department (HCHD), Howard County Office on Aging and Independence (OAI), and the Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center (JHHCMC).


These are community-based education workshops to help people manage their ongoing health conditions.

Living Well with Chronic Conditions: Toolkit

This six-week, phone-based course meets weekly in a small group conference call with an instructor. The workshop is for those living with or at risk for a chronic condition such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, depression, chronic pain, arthritis, lung disease and other health concerns. Caregivers and support persons are also welcome.

Medication & Sharps Disposal (Drive-Thru Event)

Safely dispose of: prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, sharps(syringes, needles, EpiPens, etc.), Vitamins, Pet medication, Vapes without batteries, inhalers. Provided by HC DrugFree. in partnership with Howard County Police, DEA, Howard County Health Department, and HCPSS.

Marylanders who are experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis should call or text 988. Learn more at 988.maryland.gov and access free community outreach materials in our 988 Toolkit.  Maryland veterans and their loved ones can call 988 and press 1 to transfer to the Veterans Crisis Line. Press 2 for Spanish. Press 3 for LGBTQIA+ support.
Opioid Overdose Response Training
The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) offers free virtual training on Narcan: Register for virtual training.

In-person Narcan training is also available at the HCHD van.
