Maryland Maternal Mortality Review Program Request for Proposals
|
Maryland Department of Health (MDH), Prevention & Health Promotion Administration, Maternal & Child Health Bureau, issued a Request for Applications (RFA) to provide funding to organizations with qualifications in preventing maternal mortality through community collaborations. The RFA is available for review on the eMaryland Marketplace Advantage (eMMA). If your organization is not registered as a vendor on eMMA go to: https://procurement.maryland.gov/business-community/. Email questions to: phpa.procurement@maryland.gov with procurement ID (PHPA-2028 / BPM0321321) in the subject line. Application deadline is Nov. 10, 2022 at 3:00pm EST.

ACS Self-Sufficiency Indicators Report

The report includes indicators in the areas of finance, housing, food, childcare, healthcare, and residents with a disability, with many disaggregated by race and ethnicity. It also captures the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which was in its early stages when Fiscal Year 2021 began, in June 2020.

Maryland's Child Passenger Safety Law
|
Effective October 1, 2022 children under eight years old are required to ride in an appropriate child safety seat according to the vehicle and child restraint instructions, unless the child is 4'9” or taller. Children must ride rear-facing until at least age two. For more information click here .

HCHD Receives Funding to Expand School-Based Wellness Centers
|
The Howard County Health Department (HCHD) announced the expansion of services at School-Based Wellness Centers located in 11 Howard County Public Schools, as a result of $815,000 in additional funding from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). This funding will provide students with comprehensive preventative health care and chronic disease management that includes annual physicals, behavioral health screenings and health education. Champions of Change Conference
|
The 2022 Champions of Change Conference, "Cultivating Change to Advance Equity for All” will be held Saturday November 19, 2022 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Turf Valley Conference Center, 2700 Turf Valley Road in Ellicott City. The conference features two engaging keynote speakers, 16 educational break-out sessions, and a vendor resource fair. New Accessible Trail at Haviland Mill Park in Clarksville
|
County government officials announced the completion of a 1,250-foot universal access pathway at Haviland Mill Park that allows visitors to view the Patuxent River from an observation deck. Construction of the pathway, which finally began in June 2021, includes the addition of a beautiful boardwalk, bridges, natural surface pathway, and dry stack stone walls to create the trail loop at the previously undeveloped park facility.

Adaptive Biking at Patapsco Valley State Park
|
Mark your calendars - Adaptive Biking Event at Patapsco Valley State Park in the McKeldin (Eldersburg) area of the park on November 12th. This promises to be a super fun day for all involved, as we highlight the Tall Poplar Trail--the very first adaptive mountain biking trail in a MD state park. A wide range of adaptive bikes will be made available to address mobility needs, and lunch, drinks, and tee shirts will be provided to everyone in attendance.

Howard County Veterans Day Parade and Celebration

This year's 2022 Veterans Day Parade and Celebration is on Sunday, November 13, starting at 9:30 a.m. in the Merriweather District. The parade route travels down Merriweather Drive to Little Patuxent Parkway, ending at the Columbia Lakefront. This year's grand marshal is Topaz Navarro, a 27-year US Army combat veteran and mental health advocate for the military community, and a member of the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC). The George Washington University's Center for Aging, Health and Humanities is hosting the second annual Age-Friendly Ecosystem Summit virtually on November 9th, 2022 from 9am-5pm EST. This free regional collaborative event will be held in partnership with Age-Friendly Alexandria, Arlington, DC, Howard County, Hyattsville, Montgomery County, and the Georgetown University Aging & Health Program.
