What inspires and drives you in your work or business?
When I was younger, money would have been what inspired me to do a good job. But now that I’ve aged (a LOT), I can sincerely say that it’s the senior population that I serve that inspires and motivates me. Helping them to enjoy their Golden Years feels so good!! It also inspires me to prepare myself for my Golden Years!
What do you love about conducting business in Livingston County?
The people of Livingston County are like no others. I have lived in and been a part of 11 communities in my lifetime. Out of them all, the people of Livingston County have been the most friendly, the most loyal, and the most inspiring. During my career time in Livingston County, the people I have worked with have all been dedicated to the population that they serve, not by financial goals, but by a genuine love for those people. My best example would be when I was recovering from cancer. All of my daughters' teachers and several others from Livingston County rallied to support me by donning “Team Tisha” shirts and arranging for a fun, first night out at the Howell Pink Party. The entire community rallied by announcing me as the Pink Party Queen in 2014. The support I received was nothing short of overwhelming.
What career advice do you live by and who provided the advice?
The advice given to my by my father is not only career advice, but advice for life in general. FOLLOW THE GOLDEN RULE and PAY IT FORWARD. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Give kindness, receive kindness. Give love, receive love. I’ve lived by these rules my entire life and it has proven fruitful in both my career and my personal life!
Who inspires you and why?
My father has always been my inspiration and always will be. While he has passed, I follow every bit of advice he ever gave, every rule he ever implemented. He was an amazing man and role model. His funeral was packed to the point where they had to stand outside. That’s how many lives he touched. I aspire to touch half as many lives as he did.
What is your greatest personal & professional achievement?
My greatest personal achievement would be my cancer journey. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and endured almost a year of recovery. I have been cancer free for 12 years. The journey was one that I would do again if given the opportunity, as it helped shape who I am today, a wise, tough, and grateful woman who counts her blessings every day and always sees the positive in the negative.
In 2018 I was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award by the Brain Injury Association of Michigan for my dedication, advocacy and involvement in helping individuals who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. In 2012, I was recognized by the National Association of Professional women for demonstrating excellence and dedication in the field of brain injury rehabilitation.
What exciting plans or initiatives do you have for 2024?
Our annual Holiday Shop and Stroll at Brookdale Brighton has been a huge success and something we look forward to year after year. 2024 will be the biggest and best yet! The entire community is invited, free of charge. It offers many vendors from crafts and bakers to small businesses who sell their goods to not only our community but the entire external community in a fun, holiday environment.
