Newsletter: Week of June 4, 2018

Join the Humanist Hub community as we march in the Boston Pride Parade on Saturday, June 9.  Organized by the volunteer-led VIA committee, read their blurb below:

Living in Massachusetts, it's easy for us to think that gay rights is a "solved problem." But we still have a lot to fight for.

Last year, Sam Brinton, Head of Advocacy and Government Affairs at the Trevor Project, spoke at the Humanist Hub about his traumatic experiences as a survivor of conversion therapy. Sadly, Boston is not immune to homophobia: in our community, licensed therapists can legally practice conversion therapy on LGBT youth.

Conversion therapy can lead to depression, substance abuse, social withdrawal, decreased self-esteem and suicidal thoughts.  Fortunately, we are making progress: 11 states have passed legislation and this year a record number of states introduced bills to ban licensed therapists from practicing conversion therapy on LGBT youth. We can continue to make progress if we march together and advocate for change.

Saturday, June 9. Lineup spot: 776 Boylston Street. Assembly time: 1:15pm. Stay in touch and watch for more announcements on Facebook.
