Wayne JROTC students give back through community service
Green Castle Cemetery is one of Dayton's oldest cemeteries, but it has fallen into neglect. This year, Wayne AFJROTC has partnered with the Sons of Union Veterans Sherman Camp 93 and other community groups to help cut grass, weed, and clean up the cemetery. On Aug. 26, JROTC provided 64 hours of community service.
Events such as these teach JROTC students skills related to planning, hard work, and teamwork. The next cleanup will be Sept. 23 at 9:00 a.m.

Valley Forge kindergartners practice filling their "bucket"
To help start off the year, the kindergarten team read "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" with students. This book emphasizes positive behavior by using the concept of an invisible bucket to show children how simple it is to express kindness and love by "filling a bucket." It also helps children understand that "bucket dipping" is a negative behavior but can be changed with one kind act.

SOAR students become balloon artists
On the first day of SOAR for second and third grade, balloons were incorporated balloons into a theme on flight theme. All of our activities throughout the day involved learning across the disciplines with balloons. Students ended the day with guest speaker Ms. Lea Craine from Children's Entertainment, who taught students how art and science relate to balloon sculpting. In her workshop she incorporated balloon origins, spatial reasoning, measuring, multi-step directions, friction, transfer of energy, pressure, temperature, and cause-effect. Each student learned to make three balloon sculptures of their own to take home!
