January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and we at Huckleberry are pleased to share that the California Department of Social Services recently awarded Carly Devlin with a Human Trafficking Awareness Month Award.

Carly has led the Huckleberry Advocacy & Response Team (HART) since its establishment in 2016. The award recognizes her outstanding achievements and partnership, as well as her, "exceptional leadership and advocacy for exploited youth...she has intimate knowledge of the needs of exploited youth and is well-equipped to continue spearheading anti-trafficking efforts."

Carly’s work is guided by the idea that youth are experts in their own experiences and that effectively supporting them involves prioritizing their voices and definitions of safety, well-being, and justice.

HART works in collaboration with Children’s Protective Services, SFPD, the District Attorney, and the Probation Department, to provide immediate (24/7) crisis intervention and case management services for commercially sexually exploited youth.

Join our friends at the JCCSF for their conversation with author Peggy Orenstein. Her book, Girls & Sex shattered taboos and launched conversations about young women’s right to sexual pleasure and agency. Now, in Boys & Sex , she reveals how young men understand and negotiate the new rules of physical and emotional intimacy, resulting in a provocative and paradigm-shifting work that offers a much-needed vision of how boys can truly move forward as better men.

Huckleberry's "Intimacy and Media Literacy" workshop for teens challenges gender roles and societal concepts around sex and sexuality.
