HRP Votes Support for Green Light Campaign. Take Action!
At the Tuesday, May 21 presbytery meeting, the Hudson River Presbytery voted its support for
Green Light legislation which would restore equal access to driver's licenses for all NY residents regardless of status.
HRP encourages its members to take action by encouraging your
State Senator and
State Assembly Member to support S01747/A03675.
You are especially encourage you to call or email Majority Leader, Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, asking her to bring the bill out of committee for a vote. Green Light Campaign NY says it has the votes to pass it. You can find out more information at

Presbyterian Youth Triennium Needs 1 More Male Counselor
Presbyterian Youth Triennium is the once - every three-year gathering of Presbyterian youth from all across the US! Current 8th graders through 12th graders and adult leaders will participate in Triennium July 16-20, 2019 at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. The Hudson River Presbytery Delegation will be departing in the evening on Monday, July 15 to travel by bus to the Purdue campus and we will return very early in the morning on Sunday, July 21 (Pick up and drop off spots TBD). Read on to learn what Youth Triennium is all about!

Thing 1: *We need at least two male chaperones*. If there are male youth worker staff, volunteers, parents, or pastors in your congregations who are excited about Triennium, please encourage them to sign up now. If they have questions about the event, please ask them to call me (914-826-1227). As of right now, we have a wonderful crew of chaperones, but we are all female. We need one more male (21 or over) to meet our minimum requirement for Adult Advisors.

Memorial Service for Squeegee Mills, May 25
After a heroic battle with cancer, Squeegee Mills died surrounded by her husband Richard and family. Squeegee has been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown for 17 years and served the church family in ways too numerous to count--usher, gardener, visit the visitor, cook, elder, lifelong learner in our adult education programs, to name just a few. Her husband, the Rev. Dick Mills, is an honorably retired pastor within Hudson River Presbytery. A memorial service is planned for
Sat, May 25 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown. All are welcome.

Brass Quintet Concert, June 9

Energy Savings for HRP Churches!
Thanks to the support of HRPGreen and the Budget, Finance and Property Committee of the Hudson River Presbytery, community solar through Solarize Our Congregation allows Hudson River Presbytery churches and their congregants to lock in savings of about ten percent on their electric bills for up to 20 years with no upfront cost while supporting a Care for Creation mission.
Community solar is a new paradigm that that enables electricity customers to receive the benefits of solar energy without installing panels on their own property. Subscribers enroll in a community solar project and save ten percent on the utility bill credits they receive. New York State has provided special incentives to solar developers to encourage them to build community solar projects to accelerate the transition to clean energy while increasing access to its benefits. Religious institutions are eligible to participate, unlike some other organizations and businesses.
Six churches and about twenty members of HRP congregations installed solar on their own property through last year's version of Solarize Our Congregation - many more wanted to but discovered that installing solar was not cost effective for them. Community solar eliminates that hurdle as there is no cost to participate and savings are guaranteed. In addition, churches will receive a $200 donation when they enroll and will receive a $150 donation when a member of their congregation enrolls.

HRP Green's Vegetarian Cooking Class at FPC Chester, June 1
First Presbyterian Church of Chester in association with HRP Green will be hosting vegetarian cooking classes! This is to both better care for our bodies as well as creation around us (caring what God has provided for us). Each class will teach how to make one main dish, one side dish/snack, and one dessert. Religion and Mental Health: Professional Workshop on Ministry with Persons Struggling with Mental Illness, June 17
On June 17th, from NY Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester, located in White Plains, is hosting a free, half-day event for clergy called "Religion and Mental Health: Practical Guidance for Clergy and Spiritual Caregivers." It will feature presentations from psychiatrists and from chaplains specializing in giving spiritual care to people with mental illness as well as some group discussion around the challenges of this work.

Theological Opportunities for Laypersons 
The overall goal of the Christian Leadership Program of University of Dubuque Theological Seminary is to strengthen the church through quality theological education for lay persons. While the courses offered are particularly designed for lay pastor candidates, they will serve the needs of all lay persons who are contributing their gifts to the ministry of their local church. Church officers, Christian education leaders and teachers, and persons who wish to deepen their understanding of the Christian faith will discover a rich opportunity through this program.
