Hello Rob,
August in the garden!
I was out wandering in my garden on the weekend and noticed how overgrown it was. It seemed to happen overnight. The rain this year has really pushed things to grow quickly. I couldn't see my beautiful perennial maidenhair ferns because my giant Sum & Substance Hosta was so bulky! Finding the same thing? Don't be afraid to go out and prune back some of your plants if they are being rude & infringing on other perennials, or trim back branches of your shrubs mid-summer if needed. Many people feel these things can only be done in spring or fall but maintenance pruning can be done all summer. Holes in your hostas? Yah me too.....try either diatomaceous earth or Slug B Gone
LEAF BLIGHT
We have had many customers coming in concerned about rust spots, powdery mildew, or black spots on their leaves. Welcome to gardening during a wet,& humid summer that included many cool nights. It won't kill your plants or fruit trees, we promise! Treatment options include Ready to Use sprays like Defender or Copper Bordo. Although these won't fix the leaves already affected they can help the new leaves. Always be sure to clean up all the fallen diseased leaves and get rid of them ( not in your compost). Every gardening season comes with its own challenges...that's what makes us garden addicts so resilient! Got questions? Drop in, we are always here to help!
Lots of exciting sales this week, including a garage sale, and another fun event at our Brockville location. Art is in the Garden will feature local artists with displays of their works amongst the flowers. Food & licensed event. August 14th 11-4!
