Update: Huguenot Academy's Move to Monroe College
Huguenot Academy Staff
Dear Huguenot Academy Families and Students:

We are writing to update you on the progress of moving Huguenot Academy to Monroe College.

City School District of New Rochelle Director of Facilities Carl Thurnau has met with a representative of Monroe College and a mechanical contractor. This opportunity allowed the contractor to evaluate the space, and potential size and scope of the project. On Friday, Monroe College invited a carpentry firm to similarly review the space in preparation for performing the upgrades upon approval.

The documents being developed by our architect are on track for delivery on November 29. They will be provided to Monroe College and the property owner for submission to the City of New Rochelle for a work permit. At that time, we will submit the plan and additional certification requirements (i.e., fire inspection and asbestos report) to the New York State Education Department for a Certificate of Occupancy.

We will have a better understanding of the timing of the site’s completion at the end of November. In the interim, we have secured space at the New Rochelle Public Library to begin a limited schedule of in-person instruction for students beginning after the Thanksgiving break (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) until the new space is ready for occupation. We can accommodate a limited number of students at a time, and will be scheduling shifts for them to participate in connection and support opportunities.

Furthermore, in an effort to support team-building among the Huguenot Academy students, Director Andrea Schwach has coordinated a student field trip to Boundless Adventures, an outdoor adventure park located on the campus of the State University New York at Purchase on Monday, November 29. This opportunity is free of charge for students, includes busing, the adventure, gloves (if needed), and lunch, and the field trip will provide an avenue for Huguenot Academy students to work together and build confidence. Director Schwach is continuing to work on additional experiences for Huguenot Academy students to enjoy while we await the opening of the new space.

We will continue to keep you apprised of ongoing progress and opportunities, and we look forward to welcoming you to your new first-class education space soon.

Sincerely,

Un Mensaje del Distrito Escolar
de la Ciudad de New Rochelle
19 de noviembre de 2021
Actualización: El Traslado de Huguenot Academy
a Monroe College

Atentamente,

Dr. Dagoberto Artiles
