Dear Huguenot Academy Families and Students:
We are writing to update you on the progress on moving Huguenot Academy to Monroe College.
The City School District of New Rochelle Facilities Department is collaborating with Monroe College, its contractors, and the school district’s architects and engineers. Final documents were prepared to allow the contractors to provide final cost estimates to Monroe College. Additionally, final documents were provided to the City of New Rochelle for review. The documents will also be provided to the New York State Education Department.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Huguenot Academy continues to meet at the New Rochelle Public Library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. where students receive instruction, academic support, assistance, socialization, and can take advantage of library resources. This group of students is increasing in attendance (with 50 students currently attending), and they work collaboratively with each other and their teachers in this education-oriented setting. Additionally, we have recently implemented progress cards, which have allowed for the structure and motivation the students need to get things done. With the support of their teachers, students are completing and making up work, and we are looking forward to providing families with feedback when we send home progress reports next week.
Huguenot Academy will continue to create opportunities for students to build both interpersonal and intrapersonal skills as they prepare for a life beyond high school. The faculty continuously develops strategies and plans experiences to support building connections and relationships.
We recently developed a list of frequently asked questions about Huguenot Academy that is posted on our website, and we encourage you to read the FAQ here.
We also want to thank the Genetic Counseling department from Sarah Lawrence College for their generous donation of sensory/therapeutic tools and more than $300 in gift cards for our Huguenot Academy students – we are so grateful!
We will continue to keep you apprised of ongoing progress and opportunities, and we hope to welcome you to your new education space soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dagoberto Artiles
