Big News: Construction of Huizenga Park Reimagined is set to begin in two weeks.

What’s in store: After years of planning and design, Huizenga Park will undergo a complete renovation starting at the end of August.

  • Construction is expected to take just over a year to complete, reopening by the end of 2025.
  • While the park will be closed during this timeframe, a pedestrian pathway along the Riverwalk will be available.

We couldn’t have done this without your support! The journey to build Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s signature park continues and it’s all thanks to supporters like you who believed in this project since the beginning.

How to stay informed: From a live construction cam, to regular email blasts, and updates on social media, there are several ways for you to follow along on our journey.

Fort Lauderdale Philanthropy in Action

More than 60 community champions have come together to raise over $5.5 million for Huizenga Park since the beginning of 2023.

  • We’re grateful to our newest partners, CITY Furniture and Waste Management, for their commitment to Huizenga Park Reimagined.

Huizenga Park Reimagined is a $15 million public-private-philanthropic project with funding provided by generous private donors, the State of Florida, the City of Fort Lauderdale, and the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority.

  • The best urban parks around the country follow a similar partnership model, from the Underline in Miami to Bryant Park in New York.
  • With success at Huizenga Park, the DDA hopes to replicate this approach for other DowntownFTL parks in the future.
