Dear Hoteliers,
In 2019, the Florida legislature passed a Human Trafficking Law that establishes new requirements for public lodging establishments. Those new requirements came into effect on January 1st, 2021. Please review the following information and ensure that you are in compliance.
REQUIREMENTS
Training: Lodging establishments are required to provide human trafficking awareness training to all employees who work in housekeeping, at the front desk, or in reception areas. Training curriculums must be approved by DBPR, and the department has provided a list of pre-approved 3rd party curriculums.
Every lodging establishment must maintain a signed and dated acknowledgement of each employee completing the training, and the acknowledgement must be made available to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation upon request. The establishment may keep the acknowledgement electronically. The training must be provided for new employees within 60 days after they begin employment in a housekeeping or reception area role, or by January 1, 2021.
ECPAT USA provides an approved human trafficking awareness curriculum online and free of charge. You can also email Yvonne Chen (ychen@ecpatusa.org) to request a special sign-up link for your team and a team leader user account that would allow you to see which of your team members have completed the training and print out their certificates.
Procedures: Lodging establishments must implement procedures to report suspected human trafficking activity to law enforcement or to the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888.
Signage: Lodging establishments must post a required 11x15 public awareness sign in an area accessible to employees.
For more information, visit DBPR's human trafficking page for hotels and restaurants.

Wendy
