January saw 125 animals adopted into loving homes.  We cannot thank our community enough for choosing our shelter and adoption.
February Pets of the Month - Petunia &  Kitty

Petunia  Retriever/Lab Bulldog Mix
Petunia is an older girl with a gentle sweet soul and should NOT, at the age of 12, be in a shelter. Petunia got lucky and ended up being a blizzard buddy during the weekend of the 2016 blizzard. She was able to enjoy a weekend away from the shelter in a home where her foster family shared with us how great of an older gal she is.  Petunia is good with other dogs, well behaved and enjoys lounging around the house and just being good company.  We would not have been able to know this about Petunia without the help of our foster families!  If you would like to foster with our shelter, please visit our website and fill out a foster application .
 her Blizzard weekend!
Petunia is now a student of the "Freedom for Bullies" rescue within the Humane Society of Charles County.  If you have any questions about Petunia, please call

Meet Kitty, the self-proclaimed queen of Kitty City.  While all the young cats are bouncing around the room batting toys, Kitty sits calmly in the middle of the room meowing orders to any cat that would dare to approach her personal space.  Kitty is a very calm, sweet girl who loves to be brushed and pampered and has been waiting 8 months for someone to appreciate what a lovely addition she would make to any household.

Please contact the Humane Society of Charles County at 301-645-8181 if you would like to meet either of these two wonderful pets and make them a family member!
