Consider Participating in the Summer Food Drive

Many hardworking families in Holly Springs face difficult choices during summer when school meals are unavailable: pay bills or put food on the table?

You can help ease those choices by participating in our Hunger Doesn't Take a Vacation Food Drive this May and June:

Our goal is to collect 25,000 pounds of food by July 4!

Thank you so much for considering helping local families facing food insecurity.

Have an SUV or truck? Able to lift 50 pounds?

Consider Joining our Food Recovery Team!

Are you interested in helping get available food to people who need it most while preventing food waste? Consider joining our Food Recovery Team!

Food recovery involves gathering food that would otherwise go to waste from places such as local supermarkets and restaurants and delivering it to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard where it will be distributed to people facing food insecurity.

If you have a truck or SUV, can lift 45-50 pounds, and are available for a few hours every other week, we’d love to get you on our list for recovery volunteers! Email info@hsfoodcupboard.org for more info!

Many thanks to Holly Ridge Elementary students, families, and staff! Every year, creative teachers Randy Collins, JT Everett, and Mike Scarano organize a food donation challenge. This year, if donations reached a pre-set goal, the teachers promised to build a food "shelter to sleep in outside! The HRES community did not disappoint, so here the teachers are, pictured with their shelter for the night!

In previous years, along with silly dance videos, the teachers motivated food donations with the fun rewards of teachers shaving their beards in unusual ways, shaving their heads, washing all the police cars at the Holly Springs Police Department, and allowing students to dump messy items on them! We can't wait to see what happens next year!

Thank You for Supporting the Cupboard Through the Plant Sale!

What an amazing turnout we had at the annual plant sale! With the majority of our garden team there, a few NCSU Extension Master Gardeners, and even some new chicks for our chicken palace... it was a very successful event thanks to everyone who attended. Thank you!

Huge thank you to BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina for the recent grant donation! A local donor who regularly gives to the Cupboard nominated us for the grant through her employee giving program. We are extremely grateful for the Let's Give Local Grant and the support of our community!

Thank you to the Pine Springs Preparatory School PTO for donating proceeds raised from cookie kit sales. Additionally, school families purchased cookie kits for our Cupboard client families. What a great spring treat for the children in the families we serve each week!

We are grateful for David Boles (accompanied by his friend), who conducted a much-needed food drive for his senior project at Middle Creek High School.

Cupboard Garden Activity

These three students on break came to volunteer their time in the Cupboard garden, planting radish seeds, starting cucumber seeds, working the compost, and... of course... feeding the chickens.

Last month, we found the first sugar snap pea in our garden! Many more are sure to come by the end of May.

Our gardens have already produced more than 200 pounds of vegetables this year! We are currently harvesting fresh vegetables for our clients each week: tasty carrots, onions, spinach, lettuce, kale, radishes & mustard greens!

The Holly Springs Home Schoolers Key Club completed the construction of a raft hydroponics system for growing lettuce and other greens. These kids can do ANYTHING!

Thanks to these Amgen volunteers who brought three blueberry plants and potted them in tubs, then worked all day in the garden, weeding, watering, planting seeds, renovating the herb garden, and assisting with food distribution!

Thank you, Cupboard garden volunteers!
