CRC News | May 21, 2020
Dear CRC Supporter,

No one should have to worry about how they will get their next meal.

1 in 7 adults and 1 in 5 children were already facing food insecurity before the COVID-19 crisis. Today, with growing unemployment, financial instability and school closures, food insecurity has increased by fifty percent (Feeding San Diego).

Despite the growing need, there is some good news ...

  • Since March 13, we have distributed emergency food to 2,011 needy households, including providing food delivery to at-risk seniors currently sheltering in motels.
  • Through your incredible generosity, we are 80% to our $1 million goal towards our Community Cares Campaign.

Below are some ways you can help or get help if you are in need of food. Thank you for helping us make sure that those who are hurting right now have enough food to eat.

A Birthday Food Drive

We are so grateful to the many community members who have hosted food drives over the past few months, including Encinitas Coastal Rotary, Union Co-work and Solana Beach Presbyterian Church (just to name a few)!

Special thanks to Manav, a local teen, who celebrated his birthday in the kindest way possible. Manav organized a food donation drive with his neighbors and he and his sister donated $50 from their own piggy banks to help CRC give food to families in need during this difficult time. Manav’s family says: “If we can stay safe, while taking care of others, we will look back knowing we did everything possible to contribute in a positive way.”
