Fairfax County Government Center

April 8, 2026

We begin the next step in the county’s FY 2027 budget process next week as the Board of Supervisors holds public hearings.

These hearings will take place at the Fairfax County Government Center on:

In addition, the Board will hold a separate public hearing on the FY 27 effective tax rates on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

I held my own budget town hall meetings to get your feedback, and you can watch one of them to learn more about the budget. I encourage you to look at the county executive’s FY 27 Advertised Budget Plan for more details.

His budget proposes no real estate tax rate increase — maintaining the rate at $1.1225 per $100 of assessed value. While this advertised rate remains unchanged, homeowners will still see a $357 increase in their bill on average. This is due to higher residential real estate assessments which increased by 3.99% on average countywide.

During the upcoming hearings, I’ll be listening closely to your concerns, as I have been during this entire budget process. And, I am also particularly mindful of how this budget affects our most vulnerable residents.

If you have thoughts or concerns on the budget you’d like to share with me, I invite you to send me an email or call my office.

Regards,

Walter

Take the Public Art Reston master plan survey

Shape Public Art Reston’s New Master Plan. Take a Survey Now

What’s happening: Take a quick survey to help shape Public Art Reston’s new master plan, and your feedback will guide future arts projects and programs in Reston.

You’ll also be entered into a drawing for a Shop-Around-Reston gift certificate if you include an email address when taking the survey.

Why it matters: Founded nearly 20 years ago, the nonprofit Public Art Reston (PAR) collaborates with community organizations and developers to bring art into neighborhoods, parks, and gathering places.

Their Reston Art Master Plan articulates a community-wide shared vision, and it’s a guide to help developers realize this vision.

By taking the survey, you’ll share your perspectives on existing public art, suggest new ideas, and help ensure future public art initiatives align with the community’s vision, needs, and values.

Background: Public art has been central to Reston’s identity since the creation of Lake Anne Village Center. Recognizing art’s vital role in making Reston a great place to live, work and play, the Comprehensive Plan requires public art with new developments. It also calls for developers to coordinate their public art projects with PAR to assure they meet the Art Master Plan criteria.

Lake Anne preferred signage design concept

Lake Anne Final Signage Design Presentation. Join a Community Meeting April 14

What’s happening: Review the refined and finalized design concept for two proposed signs on Baron Cameron Drive to mark the entrance to Lake Anne. Join a virtual community meeting on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m.

Tell me more: County staff and design firm Streetsense will show a final version of the community’s preferred design that was presented during a Feb. 17 meeting.

This design draws inspiration from Lake Anne’s brutalist and mid-century architecture. It features clean, modern lines with pops of color that add a modern twist. This design also offers flexibility for use in marketing materials and merchandise.

This project grew from the Lake Anne Economic Visioning Study that identified the need for better signage. Following this study, the county began to create a wayfinding strategy last May.

Join the meeting: Participate in the April 14 meeting on Zoom. Join from this link or click the button below. (Meeting ID: 814 2008 4327; Passcode:133698)

Or join by phone by calling 301-715-8592 (Meeting ID: 814 2008 4327).
