During this month of giving, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for all you do to ensure the success of our Eagles.

As you look through our newsletters you are able to see the dedication, care and commitment of our teachers, staff, parents and community members to support our eagles on their journey through their middle school years at HCMS. It truly takes a village!

I am very proud to highlight in this edition the accomplishments of our Eagles in All County Band, Chorus, Guitar and Orchestra, and All State Band, Chorus, and Orchestra. Our performing arts teachers and young musicians have spent hours of rehearsals. Make sure that you attend our Winter Concerts which are coming up after Thanksgiving Break.
I would like to extend to you  my best wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.

With my deep gratitude,

In Eagle Pride,
Joumana Moukaddam

Teacher Features
Meet Coach Hermida and Mr. Gomez . . .

Student Literacy Leader Monika Awad hosts our teacher features for this newsletter with her interviews with Coach Hermida, PE coach, and Mr. Gomez, art teacher.

Monika Awad and Coach Hermida
Q: If you could time travel what time period would you go to and why?
A: I would probably go back to my college days because I was free to make my own choices and be surrounded by tons of people who wanted to better themselves by getting an education.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: Playing with the kids and introducing them to new physical activities.

Q: Have you ever considered teaching a different subject?
A: Heck no!

Q: What inanimate object would be the most annoying if it played loud upbeat music while being used?
A: If it's playing loud upbeat music it doesn't annoy me unless its rap music that is degrading to women, but that's not upbeat.

Q: When was the last time you got to tell someone "I told you so."?
A: On a daily basis, probably every day, but that's because I think I'm always right.

Monika Awad and Mr. Gomez
Q: If you could time travel what time period would you go to and why?
A: I'd go back to probably my high school years; that way I could do things differently, take different paths and directions.

Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: Watching the kids' talent grow.

Q: Have you ever considered teaching a different subject?
A: I have! I considered teaching history and P.E., but decided I'm better at art.

Q: What inanimate object would be the most annoying if it played loud upbeat music while being used?
A: Probably a pencil when its being tapped because that's annoying even without music.

Q: When was the last time you got to tell someone "I told you so."?
A: Everyday, because I'm never wrong.

HCMS: A Forever Home
A new features in the newsletter for the next few months is a focus on past HCMS students who have returned to be an employee at the school.

Today's featured "Forever Eagle" is Rawan Almousa.

 2006 (7th grade) versus 2019

1. When were you a student at HCMS? Are any of your teachers still here and what is your favorite memory from your time here?
* I was a student here at HCMS for 6th, 7th and 8th grade, from 2005-2008.
* There are quite a few teachers still here since I was a student and there are way too many good memories to pick a favorite.
~ Mrs. Moukaddam was my Geometry teacher in 8th grade and I was also her Peer mediator.
~ Mr. Copeland was my 6th grade science teacher and we had such an amazing time in that class. I was always fun going into class. He made learning fun!
~ Ms. Nicosia was my 6th grade language arts teacher and she has helped me so much since becoming a teacher.

2. Why did you decide to become a teacher?
* Mrs. Moukkaddam actually was the person that helped me become a teacher and find my way back to HCMS. She believed in me even though I didn't see it in myself yet. I will forever be grateful for that. She has helped me start on this amazing journey with all these awesome teachers and staff and it's been wonderful so far!!

3. What has it been like coming back to your middle school as a teacher?
* Coming back to HCMS as a teacher has been so surreal! Everything is so familiar and all these memories that I thought I forgot about are constantly coming back. Everyday I remember something new, and it's so amazing! I tell my friends that I went to middle school with back in the day, that I now work here and they're so shocked and excited for me to be here. It's such an amazing school and community and I'm so grateful to be able to be apart of it again!!
