Hunter's Creek Middle School
Monday, April 12, 2021
|
|
HCMS Community Member,
Our Eagles received their progress report grades on Wednesday, 4/21. Parents, make sure that you are checking your student’s grades. Many students are working hard to bring their grades up prior to testing. We are holding our last Amnesty Wednesday for the year this upcoming Wednesday, 4/28 from 3:00 to 5:00 in order to support our Eagles.
Band, Chorus and Orchestra students had their concerts with no audience this year. Our amazing performance arts teachers recorded the students and shared the links with the parents.
This edition contains very important testing information for both Face-to-Face and LaunchEd students. Please read closely every detail mentioned below.
If you received a message from Ms. Sims regarding summer school, please complete all required information as soon as possible.
In Eagle Pride,
Joumana Moukaddam
Proud Principal

County Assessments Schedule
|
|
HCMS will be following a block schedule on May 17th - 20th for OCPS Common Final Exams for classes that do not have a state assessment:
- 1st & 5th period: May 17th
- 2nd & 6th period: May 18th
- 3rd period: May 19th
- 4th & 7th period: May 20th
|
|
On testing days, it is important that your student is on time to school and remains in school for the entire day. Although most tests should be done by lunch, technology issues can occur to extend testing times.
|
|
Here are some tips on what to bring on testing days:
- Make sure you charge your laptop each night! And remember to bring your charger (labeled with your name!) on each testing day.
- All students should have plug-in, wired headphones to use on every testing day.
- You are welcome to bring your own #2 pencil though one will be provided if you do not.
- Face-to-Face ESOL students: Make sure to bring your translation dictionary to all testing days.
- LaunchEd ESOL students: If you own a translation dictionary, feel free to bring it on testing days; if not, one will be supplied.
- You may also bring a bottle of water if you’d like.

Teacher Appreciation Week
May 3-7, 2021
|
|
Our school would not be what it is without our teachers! May 3rd-7th is Teacher Appreciation Week where we get to celebrate them. We all understand that 2020-2021 has been such an extraordinary school year. So, if you know of a teacher at HCMS that in your opinion has done an exceptional job, please take a moment to write them a note or email ( HCMS staff emails). A small gesture such as this means a lot!

Education Pays
Each spring, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases a chart that shows what people earn as well and how many people cannot find work by level of education for the prior year. They released their 2020 findings last week ( read full article).
|
|
The lesson for our Eagles? While making money and finding work are not the only reasons for acquiring a good education and taking advantage of all that Hunter's Creek & OCPS offer, one day our Eagles will be out in the world on their own. This simple bar chart, which the BLS prepares each year, consistently shows the same pattern: those with more education typically have larger paychecks and much lower odds of being out of work. While this is not always the case, overall this holds true year-after-year. Food for thought!

Prepare to make it a great week Eagles!
