I would like to congratulate all of our students, parents, teachers and staff for a successful first week of online Distance Learning. We know there have been some issues this week with internet connectivity, but thanks to our OCPS technology support staff's quick action, these issues were resolved in a timely manner. By 4:00 p.m. on Friday, 4/3, we had district-wide an average of 300,000 assignments being submitted daily (daily average used to be around 100,000). There were 4,402 Canvas Conferences (BBB). As always, OCPS ensures that every student has a promising and successful future no matter what the circumstances are.

As our teachers have been the first line of contact with our students and families, they are working closely with our admin deans and school counselors to make sure that 100% of our eagles have participated in their online Distance Learning and to address any of the students' arising needs. Please keep communicating with our  "faculty and staff." If your student is having a problem with his/her digital device, please let one of our teachers know, email Mrs. Hernandez at or call the school at 407-858-4620 to schedule an appointment to get the device checked.

In this edition of our newsletter, we have included Distance Learning resources as well as valuable mental and emotional support advice and resources (included in the Guidance and SAFE Corners below) that we hope you will find very helpful as we all go through these difficult times.

On a different note, we hope that our Eagles enjoyed our Virtual Spirit Week. More to come next week! Make sure that you participate and send us your photos.

Please don't forget to regularly visit the OCPS website for the latest news and social media posts. Again, my team and I are here for you and are available to assist in any possible way. You can always reach me via email at

Ms. Moukaddam's Letter to Students
Dear Soaring Eagles!

School is not the same without you! We miss YOU! I miss our students, teachers, staff members and parents.

Below is a link to a video that Mrs. Swain, Mrs. Hernandez and I taped for you. Check it out! Video: As you already know, we are doing school differently, and we are staying consistently in touch using our advanced technology tools.

This week went great in spite of having some technology issues. I am SO proud of you! I have no doubt that you have the resiliency and strong determination to make the best out of this extremely unusual experience. Remember that this is a temporary situation! We will all keep our sharp focus on the distance learning and we will do whatever it takes to stay safe and healthy. There is no time to waste! :-)

You have enough lessons, activities and fun challenges to keep you busy and engaged. Remember that you are not alone! We are all in this together and we will get through it together. I am here for you with all the teachers and my leadership team.

Take care of your family and of yourself! With much love!

Ms. Moukaddam

Administrative Assistants Day is April 22, 2020 but we want to celebrate ours all through April!

Administrative Assistants support executives and principals, school and district staff, and even students and parents with concerns. They make sure calls are answered, supplies are ordered, meetings are scheduled and so much more. We appreciate the  hard work that our office staff does to keep our school running. HCMS would not be the amazing place it is without you all!
