Hunter's Creek Middle School Community Brief Monday, October 7, 2024 | |
Dear Mark,
Smiles! Recognitions! Celebrating staff and students! Tons of school spirit! Optimum learning and teaching environment! All this is happening at Hunter’s Creek Middle School. Our wonderful custodial team is featured in this edition. We greatly appreciate all their hard work to keep our school clean and safe.
As for testing, students have started taking their PMA assessments if they are in 7th and 8th Grade Science, Civics, Algebra and Geometry. These assessments are to monitor your student's achievement in the above courses in which they will be testing during the May FSA Testing Administration. Students will take a PMA each quarter to assess their skills and predict how they will perform on testing come May.
Remember! The end of the first quarter is this upcoming Friday, October 11th.
Just a reminder of some upcoming days off for students: Monday, October 14th - Teacher Workday/Student Holiday and Friday, October 25th - Teacher Professional Day/Student Holiday.
In Eagle Pride,
Joumana Moukaddam
Proud Principal

We are beyond proud to share that Hunter's Creek Middle School received THREE awards during the 11th Green School Recognition Program! We received the Energy Conservation award, Water Conservation award, and Great Start School Award. There were a total of 33 applicants this year, and Ms. Jarque and Ms. Moye are extremely happy that we achieved so much during our first year applying.
This could not be possible without our NJHS members! Our recycling is improving and definitely is a huge part of this recognition.
Thank you also goes out to Ms. H, Food Rescue student assistants, our staff at lunch duty, our cafeteria workers, and the entire school for their participation in our Food Rescue program which was another part of the application that led to our awards!
The Department of Education has a Green Ribbon School Program, and OCPS has a few schools that have been awarded the recognition. Ms. Jarque cannot wait to go to Washington and become part of this unique program to share about the amazing culture we have at our school 🌎

Monday, September 23
Two exciting soccer games were played on Monday afternoon at HCMS, as the Panthers from Freedom MS visited the friendly confines of Eagle Field. Both games were important to the playoff picture, especially the girls game. The Lady Panthers and Lady Eagles came into the game with two losses, fighting for a playoff spot – the winner to earn the third and final invitation from the South Cluster.
The Lady Eagles came roaring out of the gate, with 7th grader, Gabriela Sarmiento recording a hat-trick, scoring three goals of her own before the Lady Panthers knew what hit them. Freedom began to wake up in the second half, scoring a goal before the water break, and then a second goal with one minute remaining in regulation. The last 60 seconds were intense with a flurry of activity happening on the Eagle end of the field, but Coach Shatoya Coogle’s girls found a way to hang on for the 3-2 victory and make it into the playoffs. With a 4-2 record, the girls play a makeup game today at Meadow Woods, a bit of a formality against a floundering 1-5 Stallions team.
Coach Anthony D’orsa’s boys soccer team had a much more difficult path to try and take advantage of one last chance to make the playoffs. The first step was having to beat the undefeated 5-0 Panthers. HCMS played arguably their best game of the season, fighting with everything they had against a strong Freedom team. The Panthers scored the one and only goal of the contest ten minutes into the first half, and HCMS was unable put an equalizer into the back of the net. Coach D’s boys now stand at 3-3, and have one last rescheduled game (at home) on Wednesday against South Creek to finish their season.
Thanks to Faith Cohen for selling tickets to multiple home games this season!

Tuesday, October 1st
Unfortunately, the girls lost their playoff game against Pershing K8. The score was 3-2 with Abrare Boulerhcha and Zoe Avalos scoring.
*** As our soccer season ends, we want to congratulate all of our soccer students on a great season! ***
