The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 39th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
SMUSD Board of Education President Mrs. Shelley Ryan shared, “We are very proud of our District’s continued excellence. The award is recognition of a team of dedicated professionals who at all times demonstrate, regardless of the circumstances, a commitment to achieving the best educational opportunities for all of our students.”
SMUSD Acting Superintendent Dr. Linda de la Torre stated, “This distinguished award reaffirms the outstanding commitment to educational excellence supported by our wonderful administrators, talented educators, hardworking classified staff, families and community. I am so incredibly proud of the outstanding educational programs being offered to students at Huntington Middle School.”
Huntington Middle School Principal Mr. Daryl Topalian proudly celebrated, “HMS celebrates this honor as an entire school community. The teachers, staff, students and parents collectively come together to preserve the tradition of academic excellence offered each day at HMS. In or out of the class, each day on the HMS campus is a learning opportunity. As principal, it is an honor to be responsible for the amazing instructional staff who strive each day to bring the very best out of each and every student.”
