Hello Linda,

Hurricane Francine is headed for Louisiana and will likely make landfall in less than 48 hours. We are busy putting our disaster relief plans in place and networking with multiple agencies. We'll be working hard to help animals in harm's way, before and after the storm. For anyone in a position to help, we could really use your support.

Hurricane Francine: Disaster Relief for Animals

The Humane Society of Louisiana has spent the last 24 hours getting ready for Hurricane Francine to impact our state. We've been securing our animals, preparing our facilities, issuing warnings for people with pets and more.

We're busy communicating with small shelters and organizing to help animals, ahead of the storm. Early Tuesday morning, we will be rushing to get more adoption transports on the road to safe destinations, ahead of Francine's impact. (Sweet pups transported earlier this week, right.)

Although we can't be absolutely sure of Francine's precise landfall at this time, it appears the storm will come ashore west of New Orleans as a Category 2 hurricane and will eventually pass near or over our facilities further inland.

If you are busy enacting your hurricane response plan - good luck and stay safe! If you are out of harm's way and can contribute towards our disaster response efforts, we would be extremely grateful for the help.

Monetary donations will be used, both before and after the storm for:

  • Animal transports and fuel
  • Animal food and supplies for impacted shelters and needy people with pets
  • Veterinary care and medical supplies to aid those impacted by the hurricane.

ITS TIME

TO ENACT YOUR HURRICANE PLAN THAT INCLUDES PROTECTING YOUR PETS!

If you live in an area that will be potentially impacted by Francine, there's no time to delay! Put your disaster plan in place, and make sure to remember your pets. Also look out for family members and neighbors with animal companions, who may need special assistance ahead of Hurricane Francine.

After the immediate danger has passed, we will publish a Wish List of needed relief items on our web site. To prevent waste or spoilage, please wait to send any food or supplies, until secure donation sites can be established and specific needs posted after the storm. THANK YOU!!

It is so much easier to respond to a crisis when fully prepared. For those who will be directly impacted by Francine, we hope that you and your families and friends, including your beloved animal companions, remain safe and sound throughout the storm and its aftermath. For those who can assist,

THANK YOU FOR CARING AND FOR HELPING!
