The Humane Society of Louisiana has spent the last 24 hours getting ready for Hurricane Francine to impact our state. We've been securing our animals, preparing our facilities, issuing warnings for people with pets and more.
We're busy communicating with small shelters and organizing to help animals, ahead of the storm. Early Tuesday morning, we will be rushing to get more adoption transports on the road to safe destinations, ahead of Francine's impact. (Sweet pups transported earlier this week, right.)
Although we can't be absolutely sure of Francine's precise landfall at this time, it appears the storm will come ashore west of New Orleans as a Category 2 hurricane and will eventually pass near or over our facilities further inland.
If you are busy enacting your hurricane response plan - good luck and stay safe! If you are out of harm's way and can contribute towards our disaster response efforts, we would be extremely grateful for the help.
Monetary donations will be used, both before and after the storm for:
- Animal transports and fuel
- Animal food and supplies for impacted shelters and needy people with pets
- Veterinary care and medical supplies to aid those impacted by the hurricane.
