Hurricane Helene Information

September 25, 2024

Road Update:

Road changes, mainly the entry into the City of Southport, are being modified on a daily, if not hourly basis. The Town and Brunswick County Sheriff's Department encourages residents to visit the NCDOT website: www.drivenc.gov or the Brunswick County Sheriff's social media site to get the most up to date information. Law enforcement will be implementing several road changes to address issues with access into and out of Southport. They are asking for patience as they try to find a workable safe solution while bridge repairs on NC 211 are underway. No timeframe has been given as to when those repairs will be completed.

Future Forecast:

Hurricane Helene is expected to continue a westward turn after making landfall Thursday in the Gulf Coast. NWS Wilmington is currently forecasting local impacts being only peripheral and fairly minor with rain expected in the 1-1.5" range and 25 mph wind gusts. The Town will continue to monitor this weather event and will send an update again tomorrow as forecasts are updated. Yard waste collection is on normal schedule for Thursday and Friday.
