Hurricane Helene Updates - 3/23/2025

To Adult Care Home and Family Care Home Providers,


In October of last year, the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) issued waivers of licensure rules and construction requirements for areas affected by Hurricane Helene.


PLEASE NOTE that these waivers only applied to 39 counties and Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians that were affected by Hurricane Helene and included facilities located in the following counties:


“Affected Area” includes Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Cleveland, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians of North Carolina, Forsyth, Gaston, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Iredell, Jackson, Lee, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mecklenburg, Mitchell, Nash, Polk, Rowan, Rutherford, Stanly, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Union, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin and Yancey Counties.
