KICA NOTIFICATION

As part of the island's emergency management plan, KICA and the Town of Kiawah Island issue joint emergency communications to members.

TROPICAL STORM IAN UPGRADED TO HURRICANE

Earlier this morning, Tropical Storm Ian strengthened into a hurricane.

The Kiawah Island Community Association, Town of Kiawah Island and Charleston County Emergency Management officials are actively monitoring Hurricane Ian.

BE ADVISED

Hurricane Ian is forecast to strengthen rapidly over the next several days as it crosses over the western Caribbean Sea into the southeast Gulf of Mexico. The long-term track is still uncertain, but there will be more clarity in the coming days.

South Carolina should prepare for potentially heavy rainfall and coastal flooding from onshore winds, especially at high tide, from Wednesday through Saturday.

BEGIN PREPARATIONS

Residents and property owners are advised to monitor local media, review their hurricane plans, and begin to prepare their property or make contact with their property managers.

The town and community association are coordinating island preparations in the event that our area is directly affected.
