Hurricane Ian Update
September 27, 2022
Hurricane Ian continues to track north towards the Florida peninsula. The storm is currently a category 3 with maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour. Although South Florida remains out of the cone of uncertainty, a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the area, including the Village of Palmetto Bay.

Ian is currently moving at 10 miles per hour and a reduction in its forward speed is expected between tonight and Wednesday. Landfall in Florida is anticipated to happen on Wednesday or Wednesday night; however, hurricane conditions along the Florida West coast will be felt by Wednesday morning. Tropical storm conditions are expected in southeastern Florida within the Tropical Storm Watch area beginning this evening.

Here's a message from Mayor Karyn Cunningham on what the Village is doing to prepare for the storm.
In addition, Palmetto Bay will be providing free sandbags for Palmetto Bay residents today starting at 3:30 pm at Coral Reef Park. Sandbags were also given away yesterday to many residents who stopped by the park.
