Hurricane Ida Update from Shir Chadash -
September 2, 2021
Dear Shir Chadash community -

Today’s email is all about services.

Since there is no power in the Shul building and no internet connectivity, we are planning for all services to be virtual.  All links will be on our web page soon; all times are CST.

  • Friday night services will be at 6 PM.

  • We will not convene for services on Shabbat morning, but please join us for our community Havdalah at 8:30 PM.

  • Men’s Club Minyan will be at 9:15 AM on Sunday morning.

All our Rosh Hashanah services will take place, with some adjustments to start times. We are grateful to our friends at Temple Beth Am in Los Angeles for helping David Kaplinsky to lead from there. Please join us:

  • 8 PM on Monday night, September 6th
  • 9 AM on Tuesday morning, September 7th
  • 9 AM on Wednesday morning, September 8th

  • Morning minyan for the Fast of Gedaliah will be at 8 AM on Thursday, September 9th.

For our children, there will be a virtual check-in at 3:30 PM on Monday, September 6th. We’ll sing songs, listen to a story, and offer each other blessings and good wishes. Please bring apples and honey!

For members who are evacuated, the following shuls can offer our members services:

In Shreveport, Agudath Achim - email Rabbi Sydni Rubenstein
In Atlanta, Congregation B’nai Torah - email Sarah Woelz (outdoor services available)
In Houston, Beth Yeshurun
In Memphis, Beth Sholom Synagogue - email Geo Poor
In Boca Raton, FL, Congregation Shaarei Kodesh - email Rabbi David Baum
In St. Petersburg, FL, Congregation B'nai Israel - email Judi Gordon

Please check shul websites carefully in advance for their COVID protocols.

But of course, we would love to see out-of-towners in our own services too!

Let’s continue to reach out to each other. We’ll be in touch.
