Hurricane Isaias Approaches; BHI Under a Tropical Storm Warning
Hurricane Isaias has formed in the Atlantic and, while currently located off the coast of Florida, it is expected to approach our area overnight Monday and into Tuesday. A tropical storm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for southeastern North Carolina, including Bald Head Island. Isaias is expected to move out quickly and continue its path northward along the East Coast.

The Village of BHI has issued a State of Emergency and earlier today put in place a curfew beginning Monday evening at 5pm and running through 9am Tuesday morning.

With expected sustained winds of at least tropical storm strength (39-73 mph), it will be important to secure outdoor items, including patio chairs and tables, plants, garbage cans, etc., prior to Monday afternoon.

Once the curfew goes into effect, please remain on your property and inform your guests or renters about the curfew as well.

The Village's emergency team will evaluate the condition of the Island after the storm departs on Tuesday and will remove any downed trees or other hazards before giving the all clear for individuals to get out and about.
Village of BHI Issues State of Emergency in Advance of Hurricane Isaias
The Village of BHI has issued a State of Emergency in response to the projected path of Hurricane Isaias. A curfew has been put in place from 5pm Monday through 9am Tuesday. Visit the Village's Web site to learn the latest and make sure to subscribe to the Village's Voice email notifications for the most up-to-date information from the Village.
Ferry Service Disruptions are Expected
With anticipated strong winds, heavy rain and rough seas, BHI Transportation anticipates there will likely be disruptions and/or suspension of BHI's ferry service the next couple of days. Long lines and delays will make travel difficult to and from the Island Sunday through Tuesday. More information will be available at the BHI ferry web site as it is available.

If you plan to depart the Island, remember that ferries are operating at 50% capacity so don't wait until the last minute on Monday and expect to leave the Island.

BHA Office Closed Monday
In anticipation of Hurricane Isaias' arrival, Bald Head Association's administrative office will be closed on Monday, August 3rd. The office may be open on Tuesday, depending on conditions found by the Village's emergency operations team on Tuesday morning.

In the meantime, due to the situation with COVID-19, all staff are able to work remotely and are available via email or phone as appropriate on Monday or Tuesday. Given the speed of this storm, we anticipate the office will re-open on Wednesday.
