As Hurricane Milton approaches, the District has been actively preparing for any potential impacts. Note: The District Office will be closed from Tuesday, October 8, 2024 through Thursday, October 10, 2024.
While our office is closed to the public, staff members are actively working to prepare for the possible effects of Hurricane Milton. Post-storm assessments will begin as soon as it is safe, with contractors on standby to assist with any necessary action.
Over the weekend, the District fully lowered the adjustable weirs, which were previously opened to 50% as a precautionary measure. The weirs remain 100% open. As a result, water levels on the west side of the District will rise, with water flowing as intended through the interconnected stormwater management system of ponds eventually flowing into the Six Mile Cypress Slough. Please note that these elevated levels will subside as water exits the system.
At this time, we encourage all residents to review their emergency preparedness plans.
