Churches begin relief efforts following devastating hurricane

Our hearts and prayers are with the people of Western North Carolina and the entire Southeast in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Site evaluations following storm damage are in progress. We will be notified when it is safe to provide in-person support.

“The hurricane, tornadoes, and floods have ravaged North Carolina. Thank you for supporting neighbor to neighbor, packing cleaning kits, and offering financial gifts for unfolding needs,” said Bishop Connie Mitchell Shelton. “Our Western NC Conference family’s flooding is treacherous. We trust God is near as we enter into the suffering of our neighbors.”

As we wait to learn more about the needs in western North Carolina and beyond, here are a few ways you can help support disaster relief efforts:

Crisis Cleanup (https://www.crisiscleanup.org) is a website tool and hotline used throughout the US. It connects disaster survivors who need property cleanup assistance with volunteers who can help. The hotline is staffed by volunteers like you who work from home as they have time.

Baltimore-Washington Conference churches, as Maryland VOAD members, were notified to help fill an immediate need for Phone Center Volunteers.
