Hurry to Heal
Father Casey
This summer, the lectionary for Sundays features a wide sampling of the prophets of the Old Testament. Much like the last two summers, when we explored the tales of patriarchs and kings of Israel, your entrepid preachers are embracing this opportunity to lean into lesser known parts of the Bible. The first few weeks feature stories about some of the prophets (Elijah and Elisha), which is a nice way to ease in, but soon enough we’ll be hearing the words of the prophets (like Amos, Hosea, and Isaiah). That’s when things will get interesting, because the prophets are serious business.[1] They are also incredibly relevant all these centuries later, so I hope you’ll journey with us this summer.
Our focus on the prophets means the sermons won’t be able to engage much with the gospel stories. Seeing as we’re reading through Luke’s gospel this summer, which includes several unique and powerful passages, the clergy and I will be exploring the gospel lessons here in the e-news, instead.
This weekend’s gospel features a visit by Jesus and the disciples to Samaria. Samaria was (and still is today) the home of a distantly related ethnic and religious group from Jews, with whom ...

Gloria from "A Community Mass"
This past Sunday we will began singing a setting of the Gloria in excelsis which, though new to us at Transfiguration, was composed over 50 years ago by Richard Proulx (1937-2010). It is part of “A Community Mass” from which we frequently sing the Sanctus, printed at S125 in The Hymnal 1982. If you have not done so already, familiarize yourself with the music so you can fully participate.

New Home for a Special Organ
We are excited to announce that the Howard Ross Organ, which first debuted at Transfiguration in 1971, was dedicated last month in its new home at The Episcopal Church of Saint Clement in Alexandria, VA. It has been renamed the Williams Ross Organ. This Aeolian-Skinner Opus 1525 organ honors both the late Ann Williams, a Saint Clement member with a deep passion for music, and the memory of Howard Ross, who served as Transfiguration’s first music director for over 40 years.
Hear the organ in its new home.

Godly Play Teachers Needed
Godly Play follows the pattern of Christian worship and our church's seasonal calendar. We're seeking volunteers to help introduce our children to religious language through sacred stories, parables, and liturgical actions while also enriching their spiritual experience through wonder and responsive play. Teachers work in teams of four and rotate as storytellers and doorpersons, typically spending two Sundays a month in the classroom.
