Let's Create Some Connections!

Hello!

Fall semester is off to a great start here at Hutchins. We have some Hutchins Connect events taking place this Fall and wanted to make sure you know about them. These events are for all SSU students, staff, faculty, alumnus, and family/friends so please feel free to spread the word to anyone you think may be interested by forwarding this email newsletter. All are invited to subscribe to the email newsletter to receive periodic Hutchins events and updates.

Are you interested in getting more involved with Hutchins Connect events? We would love to hear from you! We have many amazing things in the works right now and are in the process of creating subcommittees to help move us forward. If you are interested in getting involved with Hutchins recruitment, mentoring, AVID Socratic Seminar in high schools, the Hutchins Pedagogy project, or an interest of your own you want to pursue with like-minded folk (book club, anyone?), let us know! We would love to help make that happen. For those alumni who already expressed interests last spring, we will be sending out a survey to find dates/times to have a hybrid meet up -- keep an eye out!

There are some great events coming up and we would love to see you there. Let’s create some connections!

Sincerely,

The Hutchins Community Connect Team

Hutchins Connect is happy to share details from SSU's upcoming Speaker's Series "Conversations With Black and Brown in Blue" and we look forward to partnering with them for future discussions soon.

Black and Brown in Blue is a lecture series that builds a bridge between the community and law enforcement for a more inclusive community environment. The program was designed to encourage open and honest dialogue in order to reduce barriers and misperceptions.

The featured speaker, Jimmy “Rome” Ballard, is currently the Interim Executive Director of the East Point Academy in Oakland. The Author of “Trans-communality: Selling Social Change Without Selling Out.” Rome (his preferred name) leads a team of specialized care and service providers tasked with providing safe and supportive housing to San Francisco’s unhoused population. Formerly incarcerated, Rome spent 34 years to reverse the negative impact that racism and poverty has had on our society and culture. Rome is an influencer in social justice spaces and has earned a reputation amongst scholars and novice alike as an insightful innovator who brings to life complex concepts of an ideal society. For more information about this event, contact mo.phillips@sonoma.edu or check out SSU's calendar page.
