As Leadership Institute Graduation nears,
I am always in awe of our classes and how each class, like each person, has its own personality. This year’s class, one of our largest, has 26 humans who registered
for this year of exploration, renewal, enlightenment, and let’s face it, some fun comes with the package also.
The quote for this year’s banquet is by John Quincy Adams, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, YOU ARE A LEADER.”
I think each of these class members are already leaders. They surely inspire me to do more, learn more... and dream. Most of you have done the same for me.
What do you mean you aren’t a leader? Yes, you are!
You have no idea how you make an impact by what you say or do regularly. Frequently through our Leadership Program we hear how people are impacted by sound bites, tidbits overheard in conversation, and stories shared throughout the year.
This past week one of our service project groups hosted a fundraising event for the Hutchinson Center for the Arts. I watched as people who have not been exposed to the Center engage with their leadership for the first time. There were volunteers for the Center helping our project group take tickets, hand out information and mingle with guests, while 150 (sold out) guests were smiling, laughing and enjoying beverages, food and the arts. This idea follows suit as we celebrate a park getting a refresh, like Northwoods Trail, where people using that park and trail will enjoy more trails, learn more about the wildlife and use it more consistently. The same goes for our groups working with Habitat for Humanity and Equul Access, Creekside Education, and Youth Volunteerism presentations. Impacting lives of others simply by being yourself and using the skill sets you have and learn.
Our Design Team does AMAZING work throughout the year; intentionally vetting speakers, topics, and tours. HOWEVER, each one of us will solidly admit, the magic does not lay in our work efforts. The magic is from the community of Hutchinson AND those in the class.
So, CHEERS to the 33 classes of Hutchinson Leadership Institute.
CHEERS to the collaborative people in our community who make things happen to keep Hutchinson vibrant, kind, beautiful and productive.
