Recently I have noticed many people acting…. Hmmmm, what’s the word I want….. entitled, snotty, spoiled, willful, self-centered.
And that is not where I want to go with you today. Nope.
We give too much time to the negative, the loud squeaky wheel, the things that pull us down collectively.
Let’s find… Joy. Kindness. Gratitude. Compassion. Empathy.
Last month at the Arts & Crafts Festival, we had two tents go down in the Thursday evening storm. This could have been weekend-eliminating for artists who are trying to make up for last year. BUT, two crafters had extra tents…. AND shared them!
Women from the Quilt Shop went across the street to lunch. They were informed it would take some time before they could be served. Instead of pouting, stomping, or spewing snide remarks…. They asked how they could HELP! They quickly began helping get out silverware, water, etc. Then… they all ordered the same thing, so the servers didn’t have to figure out who ordered what…. THEN… they paid on one bill and did the math and reimbursement among themselves later. SERIOUSLY!
Side note: these ladies shared that later that evening they had a devotion…. They opened the book… and yes, it was about kindness!
EVERYONE is short-staffed. Everyone.
So as we walk into a new month, let’s be renewed in our collective attempt to:
- be kinder,
- provide more grace,
- accept the fact that people are tired and need a break, JUST. LIKE. YOU.
Things you can do for others who are struggling:
- tip well
- send a card (or email) of thanks
- Post a kind comment or review on social media
- Offer a hand or two to help with a project
- Invite someone to coffee (or insert beverage of choice) or lunch
- Let people know why you appreciate them. Give them specifics too!
- Provide grace
-
If they are in your pod of peeps, give them a hug 😊
If you are struggling, tell someone.
Sending each of you a cyber hug, a high five (don’t make me jump) and a kudos for making through 100% of your toughest days.
Be well.

Hutchinson Arts & Crafts & Taste of Hutchinson
|
|
|
On September 17 & 18, we held our 47th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival and Taste of Hutchinson. The weekend started off a bit rough with a Thursday night storm but luckily quickly turned into a beautiful weekend. After a year off the Festival was yet again a huge success! This would not have been possible without the help of some incredible volunteers and workers.
Thank you to the MANY businesses that make adjustments to allow the Festival to bring thousands of people to our community. Hosting a large event in Hutchinson not only brings shoppers to the event but also to so many local businesses. Many visitors will eat, stay, play and/or shop!
Did you know many people share with us that they come back to Hutchinson because they feel endeared to our community? They enjoy our shops, restaurants, trails and parks, friendly services and kindness. What a great legacy to have in the state of Minnesota!
We would like to thank the following businesses for their support at the Arts & Crafts Festival:
-
SPONSORS: Animal Medical Center on Crow River, Ashley Furniture HomeStore, CenBank, Coffee & Bagels, Edina Realty, Flank Steakhouse Goebel Fixture Company, Heartland Ag Systems, Piehl Hanson Beckman, PA., T-Mobile, Walmart SuperCenter
- EVENT PARTNERS: Citizen's, Bank and Trust Co., Cobblestone Hotel & Suites, MITGI, Nystrom & Associates, SouthPoint Financial Credit Union, T-Mobile & Uponor
We would also like to put a spotlight on the backstage people of Arts & Crafts. Thank you for your support, as well as a special THANK YOU to Hutchinson Police Services for keeping this event safe and for all the hard work they do during this busy weekend.
- Cash Wise Foods, City of Hutchinson, Hutchinson Park & Rec, Hutchinson Police Services, Kwik Trip, & West Central Sanitation
Again, THANK YOU to everyone that helped out with this event. We hope to see everyone again next year!

Each Fall the Hutchinson Agri-Business Committee along with the Glencoe Agri-Business Committee gather donations of food, wellness and safety items from Chamber Members.
The donated items are packed and hand delivered to the local farmers in the field during harvest time. These items are sincerely appreciated by the farmers and fun to hand out since they are literally in the fields!
We want to send out a huge heartfelt Thank you to all the businesses that donated items this year and a special thank you to the Agri-Business Committees for making this event such a huge success!
See below for a full list of all the businesses that graciously donated this year!
