The much-anticipated 2016 high school football season will open this Friday night, as the Hyacks head to Oregon where they will battle Scapoosse HS, on Friday night at 7:00pm.
After opening up fall camp with a productive week's worth of practices on the grass fields at Mercer, the Hyacks have spent most of the past week at CFB Chilliwack, with 70 players going through practices, film sessions and team building exercises. The trip also included an enjoyable day at Cultas Lake water park.
Strong performances throughout the past two weeks of fall camp have come from many players, including LB/RB Sammy Sidhu, senior center Sarban Sidhu, receiver Ben Tjernagel and transfer TE/LB Prento Durigon.

Friday's opponent, Scappoose HS is a perennial power in the state of Oregon, having reached the 4A State Championship game in 2015. They also had a pair of players that participated in last year's Super Bowl as members of the Carolina Panthers, backup QB Derek Anderson and LB David Jones. The two programs are very familiar with one another, as the Hyacks have attended the Great Northwest Team Camp on the Oregon coast hosted by Scappoose 6 times since 2009. This will be the first of a home and home series, as the Indians are scheduled to come to Mercer Stadium in 2017.
On Friday the team will be meeting at 7:30 am at Mercer stadium with an 8 am departure time scheduled. Following the game the team will travel to Seattle and stay the night there, before watching the University of Washington vs Rutgers college football game on Saturday. They will drive home after the game and are expected to arrive at Mercer Stadium before 8pm.

You have all seen the construction going on at the Home of the Hyacks all summer. You've all been asking, "Will the new turf be ready for the Hyacks first home game?" Well the answer is a resounding yes! Installation workers have been working evenings and weekends and fully expect the field to be ready for the start of the school year on Sept 6th.  Check out the picture of the progress below.
The Hyacks will open their home campaign on Friday, Sept 9th against Notre Dame HS of Calgary. The Pride is one of the top teams annually in Alberta, having lost in the provincial title game last season and were ranked 8th nationally on Canada Football Chat (New West was 33rd). The defending provincial champion Hyack JVs will open their season on the new turf the night before, when they host Mission.

The Royal City Hyack Football Club opens its season this weekend with games at various levels throughout the lower mainland on Sunday, Sept 4th. Last weekend, the Jr Bantams scrimmaged Richmond on Monday night at home, while the Atom and flag teams took part in tournaments over the weekend. The Hyack Orange Flag team took home top spot in the Bronze Boot Tournament held at Bear Creek Park in Surrey. On Sunday, Sept 11th, all six RCHFC teams will play at Mercer Stadium in our annual Hyack Family Day.
