September 27, 2016

Congrats to Tommy Robertson (NWSS grad 2014) who was the BCFC Offensive Player of the Week for week 8. The former U of Windsor Lancer and now Langley Rams QB was 16 of 27 for 242 yards and 3 TDs in a win over the VI Raiders. Robertson was a late addition to the Rams this season and is now 2-1 as a starter, while the team is 6-3 and has clinched a playoff berth.

Michael Adetola (NWSS grad 2012) of St F of X and Jordan Chin (NWSS grad 2103) of Concordia, faced off this past weekend. Chin's Concordia Stingers took the win at home 17-11.

With the season just around the corner, the Varsity Hyacks are looking for help in a number of areas off the field. The most pressing need is for additional game night staff and poster distribution. If you are interested please contact Barb Drake at: or coach Lalji to get more details. But there are a number of smaller roles also available. Our program has always received outstanding parent and community support, so we expect 2016 will be no different. We look forward to hearing from you.

Despite the wet weather, Homecoming 2016 presented by Key West Ford was a another big success. A crowd well in access of 1500 watched the Hyacks defeat Carson Graham 51-0. The event also included the Save on Foods Family Fun Zone and Pre-game Party, while CTV Sports was also in attendance, hosting a portion of their sportcast from Mercer Stadium. At halftime, NWSS band turned into a marching band for a day and did a fantastic job entertaining those in attendance. Andrew Thind was this year's winner of a pre-owned Ford Focus in our raffle, courtesy of Key West Ford.
Hyacks Football would like to thank our presenting sponsor Key West Ford, along with media sponsors the New Westminster Record, CTV and Virgin Radio 94.5 FM, for their continued support of Homecoming.
On the field, the Hyacks didn't disappoint as they dominated Carson Graham by a 51-0 score, topping the 50-point mark for the 2nd consecutive game. Sammy Sidhu was named the Player of the Game with 147 yards and 2 TDs on just 7 carries. Lucas Sabau also had a strong game with 114 yards and a TD, while Finn Stark and Juan Cespedes scored their first ever TDs. Sarban Sidhu was named the Dairy Queen Lineman of the Game, while defensively Connor Pattison recorded a season-high 13 tackles.

The JV Hyacks won their 3rd consecutive game, by a 44-31 margin over Mt Boucherie in Vernon on Thursday. It was the league opener for both teams. Broxx Comia and Michael Zhang each scored 3 TDs along the ground. Comia and Matthew Forero each added 4th quarter interceptions to seal the victory. Other solid performances came from Arjun Bal and Nathaniel Saenz.
The JVs return home this Thursday as they take on Terry Fox at 5:30pm at Mercer Stadium.

The JB's lost a close 14-6 decision to the Vancouver Trojans, in a game that ended early. Andros Dancey returned to the lineup with a TD and a pair of interceptions.
For the 2nd straight week, the Pee wee Hyacks saw their comeback bid fall short, as they fell 25-13 at Westside. Ehren Luc Javier returned an interception 105 yards for a TD to make the score 19-13 early in 4th quarter. Karrson MacCuaig brought steady defensive pressure from his tackle position, while Jack Nyang executed a perfect onside kick to start the 2nd half.
The Atoms fell 40-21 at North Delta. Benicio Hageleit scored a pair of TDs, while Nathan Hillmann was on the receiving end of a TD pass from Lukas Lalji, the first passing TD of the season. Gianni Bosa and EJ Hansraj showed plenty of hustle on defense all game.

The Orange team suffered a 20-6 loss against the Richmond Raiders on Sunday. Jacob Armstrong's TD brought the Hyacks to a 6-6 tie at half time, with a go ahead touchdown run by the Hyacks called back on a penalty. The Orange team is now 2-2 and will join the other Hyack flag teams playing this Friday at 7pm under the lights at Mercer Stadium.
Despite a strong performance in the second half the Black team lost to the Langley Stallions 24-12. Dylan Jones both TDs while Demetri Biniaris was outstanding on defense and made a huge offensive rush. QB Jai-shon Llewellyn made the season's first pass completion to Alexander Biniaris.
After a scoreless first half, team Silver lost 14-0 to Richmond. Offensively Nickolas Weeks had a long 30 yard run. The team had a great defensive effort with Alex Tustin making some great flags.
