FALL CAMP UNDERWAY

The 2019 BC High School Football season is upon us and over 80 members of the Hyack Football program will be on the field every weeknight for the rest of August taking part in fall training camp. Expectations will be high for the Hyacks, after back to back appearances in the provincial championship game and four straight final fours. The players have worked hard through summer workouts and are ready for another great season and long playoff run.

Gus Oliver and Sam Webb were recognized for their effort and commitment to off-season workouts, and have begun fall camp well. Austin Galbraith, Owen Stark and  Pavan Kainth  are others who have shown well through the first few practices. On the JV side, Matthew Duncan, Robert Preda and Will Gallant have been noticed by coaches early on. This Friday, the Varsity team will take part in a combined practice with STM. The complete practice schedule for fall camp can be found here.

The following Friday, Aug 30th, the Varsity Hyacks will travel to Sedro-Woolley, WA to take part in a jamboree. They will then stay in Seattle and watch the University of Washington take on Eastern Washington, on Saturday, before travelling home.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

The Royal City Hyacks Football club played host to the Battle of the Axe pre-season tournament on Sunday at Mercer Stadium. The highlight of the tourney came in the morning with the Black team winning the title in the tyke division.

JR BANTAM

The JBs took on Westside in the final scrimmage of the day. Kelani Pedrosa opened the scoring with a 70 yd TD run. Benicio Hageleit was a standout on defense with some TD-saving tackles, while QB Antonio Hageleit had over 80 rushing yards. Jack Kannt recorded a forced fumble and Aaryan Chandok had a sack.

PEE WEE

While the pee wees didn't take part in the Axe, they did manage to get their first game action of the season, with a scrimmage against North Surrey that ended 6-6. Nigel Derasp score the Hyacks TD while Nathan Hillmann had some long runs. Defensively Linkin Twamley and EJ Hansraj stood out.

TYKE BLACK

The team won the Battle of the Axe on Sunday thanks to great performances by Acher Helm, Mason Smith and Keon Panasar and Alex Paterakis . Great job boys!

ATOM

Standouts included Landon Nelso-Belt who proved to be a beast on defense. Offensively Andre Sato had a great game running the football and was also one of the best blockers on the field. Touchdowns came on one yard plunges by the quarterback Ken Marasigan.
