HELP WANTED

With a new season under way, the Hyacks are always looking for new volunteers in a number of areas. From assistance with graphic design, the banquet and auction, to jersey washing and concessions, we are looking for parents to take on coordinator roles, to groom under parents of existing senior players or simply helping on event nights. Please contact Coach Lalji   and we'll get you directed in the right areas. Our program has received a championship level of parent and community support and we expect 2019 to be no different. We look forward to making you a big part of the Hyack Family!

More information will be provided at the Parents Meeting on Wed, May 15th at 6:30pm in the NWSS Library.

2019 PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY

Back to back appearances in the provincial championship game, four straight final fours, and two titles have raised the expectations for the Hyacks, and the players have shown us this off-season that the 2019 team will be ready to meet those expectations.

Those that have stood out in the weight room thus far include: Varsity - Owen Stark, Vishaan Narayan, Aymen El Sayed, Greyson Planinsic, Andros Dancey and Tyson Black. Dyson Glavis and Jairus Pagtakhan have excelled among the JVs. Positional skill development and speed school sessions began during spring break and varsity 7 on 7 spring league begins on April 19th.

The 2019 game schedule has also been set and can be found here.

THREE MORE HYACKS EARN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Congratulations to Broxx Comia, Evan Nolli and Kinsale Philip who are the latest Hyacks to earn college scholarships. Comia signed his letter of intent in March with the University of Manitoba, while Nolli and Philip signed with Simon Fraser University and University of Toronto respectively, in February. All three players were among the top 70 ranked players in Canada by Canada Football Chat and received numerous scholarship offers. The trio brings the total number of NWSS football players since 2003 to earn football scholarships to 44. Read more on  Nolli'sPhilip's and Comia's signings here.

The school held a signing ceremony on March 12th to honor 8 NWSS student-athletes who will be receiving athletic scholarships.

HYACK FOOTBALL IN THE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS

Earlier this month we will begin our week-long PE classes football units at every elementary and middle school in New Westminster. Recent NWSS graduate Anthony Dillman has been our lead instructor and has been very well-received. The program will culminate with the first annual Elementary school flag football jamboree on Wed, June 19th at Mercer Stadium at 11:30am.

At the three middle schools, the highly successful middle school tackle football program has begun. The kickoff jamboree will take place on April 26th at Mercer Stadium, with the season wrapping up on May 17th. This has proven to be a very effective late entry point to the sport of football for those that have never played previously.

TUTORING AND STUDY HALL

Tutoring will continue for all players for the balance of the academic year. The schedule is as follows:

Every Tues: Math and Science at 5-6pm in NWSS Library
Every Wed: English and Social Studies 4-5pm in room 188.

All players who receive a grade lower than a B in any of the above classes on the April 18th report card are expected to attend the sessions. There is no cost for the sessions.
