“New Day’s Lyric” by Amanda Gorman

Singing Our Faith ~ "Gather Us In"

Here in this place a new light is streaming,

Now is the darkness vanished away,

See in this space our fears and our dreamings

Brought here to you in the light of this day.

Gather us in, the lost and forsaken,

Gather us in, the blind and the lame.

Call to us now, and we shall awaken;

We shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young, our lives are a myst’ry,

We are the old who yearn for your face.

We have been sung throughout all of hist’ry,

Called to be light to the whole human race.

Gather us in, the rich and the haughty.

Gather us in, the proud and the strong.

Give us a heart so meek and so lowly;

Give us the courage to enter the song.

Here we will take the wine and the water,

Here we will take the bread of new birth,

Here you shall call your sons and your daughters,

Call us anew to be salt for the earth.

Give us to drink the wine of compassion.

Give us to eat the bread that is yours,

Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion,

Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Not in the dark of buildings confining,

Not in some heaven, light years away,

But here in this place, the new light is shining,

Now is the Kingdom, now is the day.

Gather us in and hold us forever.

Gather us in and make us your own;

Gather us in all peoples together,

Fire of love in our flesh and our bones.

Celebrations

At this time, we share moments from our lives: birthdays,

anniversaries, works of peace and justice. We celebrate even sorrows and grief as part of a comprehensive view of life.

Celebration Song

Joy to the world! The Lord is come!

Let earth its praises bring;

Let every heart prepare Christ room,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven and nature sing,

And heaven and heaven and nature sing.

Christ rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nations prove,

The glories of God’s righteousness

And wonders of God’s love,

And wonders of God’s love,

And wonders, and wonders of God’s love.

Celebration of Communion

One: We have all been invited to eat together at the table set

before us.

Many: We come hungry and thirsty.

One: Jesus invited everyone to the feast—the rich and the

poor, the faithful and the unfaithful, the strong and the

weak, the old and the young.

Many: Even though we know we are invited, sometimes we choose to be “no shows.”

One: Our own feelings of unworthiness keep us on the

fringes, reluctant to come to the party.

Many: Yet the revolutionary news is that we are all

worthy, loved, precious, forgiven.

One: This table is the promise of new beginnings. The

breaking of this bread and the pouring of this juice say

we can live as a forgiven people, freed from the burden

of separation and self-doubt, freed to “fully live.”

Many: We are accepted and loved just as we are. Let us share this love that is for all people everywhere.

LEARNING AND MOVING INTO THE WORLD

Word About Life—John 1: 1-4

In the beginning there was the Word;

The Word was in God’s presence,

and the Word was God.

The Word was present to God from the beginning.

Through the Word all things came into being,

And apart from the Word nothing came into being

that has come into being.

In the Word was life, and that life was humanity’s light.

Words for Mission

One: Our time in this sacred place may have ended, but our

connection to each other and our respective communities

remain.

All: Together may we walk the path of justice, speak words of love, live the selfless deed, tread gently upon the earth, and fill the world with compassion.

One: These are the times!

All: We are the people.

One: All of Creation is blessed.

All: May we love all and serve all.

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ "It’s a Brand New Day"

It’s a brand new day full of possibility,

It’s a brand new day full of hope for you and me.

And tomorrow’s here today bringing change along the way,

So let’s live our life and say it’s a brand new day.

It’s a brand new day full of awe and mystery,

It’s a brand new day to create our history,

As tomorrow fades away, weaving lessons through our way

We can live our life and say, “It’s a brand new day!”

Sermon Reboot and 9:00 am Spiritual Formation will return next week. Our Epiphany worship and study series is on prayer. All are welcome.
