Sunday Morning Greetings!

No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

You're in good hands at 9:00 am Adult Spiritual Formation today: Pastor Ken will be leading a capstone discussion of our prayer series. It's always a great week to connect with others and with your own experiences.

If you're attending today via Zoom or streaming our service on YouTube, take a moment to gather the communion elements of your choice. We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of the month.

Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship

One: We gather to connect with Spirit. We hope for moments of awe. Praise the Holy One! Be in awe of God!

Many: Happy are those who delight in the Spirit’s presence!

One: As we gather, our hearts are affirmed and secure.

Many: Happy are those who delight in the Spirit’s protection!

One: We stand united for peace. We seek justice.

Many: Happy are those who delight in the Spirit’s power!

Singing Our Faith ~

"Let Us Talents and Tongues Employ"

Let us talents and tongues employ,

Reaching out with a shout of joy.

Bread is broken, the wine is poured,

Christ is spoken and seen and heard.

Chorus

Jesus lives again, earth can breathe again,

Pass the word around: Love abounds!

(Repeat)

Christ is able to make us one,

At the table he sets the tone.

Teaching people to live, to bless,

Love in word and in deed express.

Chorus

Jesus calls us in, sends us out,

Bearing fruit in a world of doubt,

Gives us love to tell, bread to share:

God Immanuel everywhere!

Chorus

Opening Prayer and Silence

Special Music ~ "Quiet Place"

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

How I can give, and how to forgive

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

You

Like Jesus in the garden

Let me be in this quiet place

Let me see your path for me

Let me trust in your grace

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

How to be true in all I do

In this quiet place

In this quiet place

Help me be still and know

You

Celebrations

At this time, we share moments from our lives: birthdays,

anniversaries, works of peace and justice. We celebrate even sorrows and grief as part of a comprehensive view of life.

Celebration Song

Celebrate your heart and your spirit.

Celebrate your life while you live it.

Even when it’s hard to do,

celebrate the best of you!

Celebrate your dreams and your visions.

Celebrate the love you’ve been given.

Cherish all that you’ve been through.

Celebrate the best of you!

Invitation to the Table

Shared by Rev. Ken Heintzelman

One: Like a sower, the Source of Life scatters, and will give growth.

All: The Source of Life scatters life about the planet.

One: Like a shepherd, the Source of Life gathers.

All: ... gathers people in families.

One: ... gathers people in communities.

All: ... gathers people together in every place.

One: The Source of Life and Love gathers us around this table to remind ourselves, across the bounds of language or nation, across the bounds of tradition or custom, that such gatherings renew us, restore our faith. As we share this bread and juice today, let us be mindful of how a simple act of sharing connects us to so much more.

Sharing the Meal

In this Epiphany season, in this season of prayer, we are aware of connections: between us and the Spirit, among members of the Shadow Rock community both here and online, and swirling through all humans and all our earthling siblings. We bring to mind different parts of planet, different languages, settings, and cultures, all connected. We share this symbolic meal in gratitude for and solidarity with all of Creation.

We rejoice in the giftedness of each person here. We are grateful for who we are for each other. May we continue to be truly thankful in all we do and in all we become.

Please come forward—all are welcome. Our Communion offering this month supports the Refugee Resettlement Fund.

Communion Song ~ "As the Grains of Wheat"

Chorus

As the grains of wheat once scattered on the hill,

were gathered into one to become our bread.

So may all your people from all the ends of earth

Be gathered into one in you.

As the cup of blessing is shared within our midst,

may we share the presence of your love.

Chorus

Let this be a foretaste of all that is to come,

When all creation shares this feast with you.

Chorus

Invitation to Give

One: The generous life imagines the possibilities of the

kin-dom of God realized through the sharing of our gifts. Generosity glorifies God and connects us as neighbors. When we give of our time, talent, and treasure, we declare our trust in the abundance of God’s continuing creative acts and participate in the realization of the kin-dom on earth.

Many: Yes! We want to live lives of generosity. Amen.

Word About Life - James 4: 4-8

Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you suppose that it is for nothing that the scripture says, ‘God yearns jealously for the spirit that he has made to dwell in us’? But he gives all the more grace; therefore it says,

‘God opposes the proud,

but gives grace to the humble.’

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Words for Mission

One: The movement of prayer is the movement of God in the world.

All: The movement of God’s people is the movement of Love in the world.

One: These are the times!

All: We are the people.

One: All of Creation is blessed.

All: May we love all and serve all.

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~

"I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me"

I’m gonna live so God can use me,

Anytime, Lord, and anywhere.

I’m gonna live so God can use me,

Anytime Lord, and anywhere!

I’m gonna work so God can use me…

I’m gonna pray so God can use me…

I’m gonna sing so God can use me…

You're invited to Sermon Reboot this morning, in the Narthex immediately following worship. Folks on Zoom are also welcome to stick around. This time together is an informal and open-hearted discussion of the sermon.
