Hybrid Worship

12 March 2023

Sunday Morning Greetings!

No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

During 9:00 am Adult Spiritual Formation, we're in the midst of a series for Lent called What Matters. Today's topic is "We are covenanted and covenanting."

The good folks on the Sacred Sites team are sharing an insert today. If you're attending in person, it's on blue paper in the center of your worship bulletin. If you're zooming today, here is the insert.

Welcome and Announcements

Call to Worship

One: God of sea and sky, you keep the earth flourishing.

Many: We come before you weary from traveling through barren lands.

One: Holy One, you give water that sustains body and spirit.

Many: You hydrate us when we need.

One: Miracle Worker, you caused a rock to crack and bring forth water.

Many: Crack our hearts open and let your love flow from them like a spring.

Singing Our Faith ~ "All Are Welcome"

Let us build a house where love can dwell

and all can safely live.

A place where saints and children tell

How hearts learn to forgive.

Built of hopes and dreams and visions,

Rock of faith and vault of grace.

Here the love of Christ shall end divisions:

All are welcome, all are welcome,

all are welcome in this place.

Let us build a house where all are named,

their songs and visions heard.

And loved and treasured taught and claimed

As words within the Word.

Built of tears and cries and laughter,

Prayers of faith and songs of grace.

Let the house proclaim from floor to rafter:

All are welcome, all are welcome,

all are welcome in this place.

Pastoral Prayer and Silence

Responsive Lord’s Prayer

Our Creator, In Heaven

Hallowed be your name.

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

On Earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those,

Who trespass against us.

Save us from the time of trial,

And deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours.

Now and forever.

At this time, we share moments from our lives: birthdays,

anniversaries, works of peace and justice. We celebrate even sorrows and grief as part of a comprehensive view of life.

Celebration Song

We are one, we are all. We are big and we are small.

We are one, we are all, We are short and we are tall.

We share joy, we share sadness

We share voices all in glee.

Come sing a celebration song with me.

Sing a celebration song; sing a celebration song.

No matter who you are, come sing along.

Sing a celebration song; sing a celebration song.

Come sing a celebration song with me.

Invitation to Give

One: God gives of God’s Self freely, so let us give freely to God.

All: Let us bring gifts that sustain the life of the

kin-dom. May these resources be more than enough.

One: Fount of Blessing, receive our gifts in the joy that we give them. Be it time, tithe, or talent, it all comes from you.

All: Thank you for blessing us to be a blessing to you and each other. Amen.

Word About Life - John 4:27-38

Just then his disciples came. They were astonished that he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, "What do you want?" or, "Why are you speaking with her?"

Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people, "Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah, can he?" They left the city and were on their way to him. Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, "Rabbi, eat something."

But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about." So the disciples said to one another, "Surely no one has brought him something to eat?"

Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work. Do you not say, 'Four months more, then comes the harvest'? But I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields are ripe for harvesting. The reaper is already receiving wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.' I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor."

Words for Mission

One: Beloveds, as we depart this space, we remember that the God who walked with the Samaritan woman is the same God who walks with us.

All: We depart with the assurance that in the midst of a chaotic world something good can happen, and something good will happen.

One: We want to be part of good things happening!

All: We tell ourselves, and we tell one another: ‘Be of good courage!’

One: These are the times!

All: We are the people.

One: All of Creation is blessed.

All: May we love all and serve all.

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ "Go, Make a Diff’rence"

Go make a diff’rence.

We can make a diff’rence. Go make a diff’rence in the world.

Go make a diff’rence.

We can make a diff’rence. Go make a difff’rence in the world.

We are the salt of the earth, called to let the people see

the love of God for you and me.

We are the light of the world, not to be hidden but be seen.

Go make a diff’rence in the world.

After worship, you're invited to a casual conversation on Zoom or on the Narthex couches. We'll take another look at the sermon and our responses and wonderings.

Everyone is welcome.

PS Next week is Coffee Chat!
