Sunday Morning Spiritual Formation

No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

Adult Spiritual Formation is on a one week hiatus today. In June, look for a short study on the "big deals" in Acts of the Apostles... and how we're still living into the vision of those early faithful people.

For questions, suggestions, and all ponderings about spiritual formation, please reach out to Karen.

GATHERING IN THE SPIRIT’S PRESENCE

Welcome and Announcements

Opening Statement

Who are we and what are we called to do?

All: We are a spiritual community called to create a world where every person is radically affirmed and barriers between people become bridges of inclusion, justice, and spirituality.

Lighting of the Community Candle

One: As a workman gathers his tools

As a poet gathers her images

All: As a musician gathers his band

As a scholar gathers her arguments

One: As a writer gathers his stories

As a preacher gathers her texts

All: So God gathers people for service.

One: We have gathered in this ordinary yet sacred place

again. May we continue to create here a circle of love,

ever expanding, ever growing.

A place of wisdom.

A place of connection.

A place of hope.

All: We are grateful. Amen.

Singing Our Faith ~ "Every Time I Feel the Spirit"

Chorus:

Every time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart,

I will pray.

Yes, every time I feel the Spirit moving in my heart,

I will pray.

Upon the mountain my God spoke,

Out of God’s mouth came fire and smoke.

Looked all around me; looked so fine;

I asked my God if all were mine.

Chorus

Oh Jordan River, chilly and cold,

It chills the body not the soul.

There’s only one train on this track;

it runs to heaven, then right back.

Chorus

Sharing Peace

One: May a heart of peace rest with you.

All: And also with you.

You are invited to share the peace with your neighbors.

STILLING OURSELVES

Centering and Responsive Prayer  "Sanctuary"

Will you be my refuge. My haven in the storm

Will you keep the embers warm,

When my fire's all but gone?

Will you remember and bring me sprigs of rosemary

Be my sanctuary 'til I can carry on,

Carry on, Carry on.

LISTENING TO GOD AND TO ONE ANOTHER

Celebrations and 50th Anniversary Moment

I have become more and more interested in making sure acts of goodness and kindness (however casual or deliberate or misapplied) produce language… Allowing goodness its own speech does not annihilate evil, but it does allow me to signify my own understanding of goodness:

the acquisition of self-knowledge.

~Toni Morrison

Celebration Song

Celebrate your heart and your spirit.

Celebrate your life while you live it.

Even when it’s hard to do, celebrate the best of you!

Celebrate your dreams and your visions.

Celebrate the love you’ve been given.

Cherish all that you’ve been through.

Celebrate the best of you!

Prayer Response - Let There Be Peace on Earth

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth,

the peace that was meant to be.

With God, our Creator, family all are we,

Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.

With every step I take, let this be my joyous vow:

To take each moment and live each moment

in peace eternally!

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Word About Life -

Numbers 11:24-30

So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD;

and he gathered seventy elders of the people, and placed them

all around the tent. Then the LORD came down in the cloud and

spoke to him, and took some of the spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders; and when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they did not do so again.

Two men remained in the camp, one named Eldad, and the other named Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those registered, but they had not gone out to the tent, and so they prophesied in the camp.

And a young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are

prophesying in the camp." And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses, one of his chosen men, said, "My lord Moses, stop them!"

But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the Lord's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit on them!"

And Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

Sending Forth

One: Let us be still.

All: And let nature's peace wash over us like waves lapping over stones, smoothing rough edges of our worries into tiny grains of sand, leaving smooth shining love.

One: May we be wholly present this week, ready to be

surprised by the wonder of each ordinary moment.

May the earth be warm under your feet, Beloveds.

All: May the sun and rain bring the gentle flowers of the desert into blossom and the wind blow as the breath of the Spirit.

(Candle is Extinguished)

One: These are the times!

All: We are the people!

One: All of Creation is blessed!

All: May we love all and serve all!

One: May God be with you.

All: And also with you.

One: Amen.

All: Amen.

Sending Forth Song ~ "Trees of the Field"

You shall go out with joy

And be led forth with peace

The mountains and the hills

Will break forth before you

There'll be shouts of joy

And all the trees of the field

Will clap, will clap their hands

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

The trees of the field will clap their hands

While you go out with joy

Repeat (second time at a faster tempo)

After the service, stick around! Sermon Reboot is a time for noodling around with the ideas from the scripture and the sermon. It's informal and inspiring. Everyone is welcome.
